I've never driven another mark so im not sure if this is normal..The gear shifter is stiff..Rather hard to change gears compared to other cars...Such as a 05 altima,08 aura and 07 impala.

i have to put some muscle into it. With the other cars its silky smooth with little to no effort...is it the cable??

has it been that way since you got it or did it just start? all my gen 2's are smooth as hell, sounds like you got something binding if its that hard to shift.

since i've had it (around 12k)... if yours is smooth then sumtin is def wrong with mine..Were would it bind and is it easy to locate/lube??

ok but i'm still unsure what could be cuasing the problem and dont have much money to throw around.

when i did the blend door i lubed the shifter but to no avail.

Probably the cable going south. I don't know how hard it is to do, but if you can disconnect it and try the shifter that will let you know for sure. Perhaps Jamie or someone knows an easy way to disconnect it?...

yes crawl under the car and pop the cable of the shifter linkage ball, it snaps onto the tranny just like your hood hinges, all you need is a flathead and pop the cable off the trans then try shifting it inside the car, this will confirm if its the shifter assembly or something inside the trans.

+2 with jamies method, pop it off the trans and check, if its still stiff reattach to trans and disconnect the other end of the cable from the shifter itself and retry, that should point you in the correct direction. ive seen lots of fords that get pop down in the base of the shifter (where it pivots) and gunk the hell outta it, lots of brake clean to break it down then lots of pb blaster to lube it up and its usually good

I do know that with a broken 1 2 spring it will shift a lot harder ...

Also I know that Max doesn't sell the purple 1 2 spring with his accumulator ... The spring makes the shift smooth .. no spring and you get a harder hit.

Just my $.02 ... but the suggestions above are from people who have spent some time with the Mark VIII.

My shifter was hard to shift for about a day and a half after I had my transmission replaced... after that it was easy... dunno why...
