As I was driving down the highway minding my own business, my 97 continental's engine quit. No warning, and it shut down as if I had turned of the key. All electrical was fine. The engine just shut off and would not restart.

I have replaced the crankshaft sensor, and the battery (The old one died from too much cranking). I have check the fuel rail and when I press the shrader valve fuel shoots a foot into the air. I have also checked spark, and there is spark. The engine turns over fine, but wont start or run. Also, as a side one every once in awhile when trying to start it, it fires maybe 3 or 4 cylinders then dies.

There is no check engine light either.

I am not sure what other information would be helpful, but please ask what every you thing would help diagnose this issue.

Thank you so much for help

Hi , Fuel shooting in the air a foot doesnt mean you have enough fuel pressure. You need around around 40 psi. If you dont have a gauge, simply pull the air cleaner hose off top of throttle body and spray a good shot of carb cleaner down throttle plates. Give it a good 4 or 5 second blast. reconnect the air hose. If it fires and runs for couple of seconds you probably have bad fuel pump or plugged filter. Good luck and let us know!

Does the schraeder valve pressure test pressure before or after the Fuel Pressure regulator? So if it tests at 40psi, could the regulator still be bad?
