96+ Mustange GT calipers (PBR) on the Mark?

Has anyone tried fitting these calipers onto a stock rotor? These are not the cobra calipers, but are dual piston calipers. They fit on my SHO when I had it with stock rotors.

If no one has I'm going to give it a shot...
 
I have them on mine. They won't fit the stock rotors, They will fit stock t-bird/cougar rotors though, which is good because they are the same bolt pattern. You also need to grind down the caliper a little so it clears the spindle, otherwise when the pads wear down they will contact the rotors at all times. They grab much stronger though than the stock calipers.

Correction: I have 99+ PBRs. They are different from the 96s so I'm unsure of how the 96s will fit.
 
Ahh - maybe I was wrong in my 96 assertion. I do believe the PBRs are 99+

Excellent info! Seems like a pretty direct swap if all thats needed is T-Bird rotors!
 
They should directly bolt on with no grinding. I put cobra pbr's on mine and they fit great.
 
Cobra PBRs are not the same. Most people who have swapped in the gt pbrs needed to grind.

Weird. I know of plenty of people who swapped gts and they dont have to grind anything... Theres a tech article on a tbird site claiming that it is a straight bolt on. SO what do guys with gts do when they wanna swap cobra calipers? On top of that its a floating caliper, so there should be no reason for grinding because the pads touch... Maybe if the caliper mounting bracket touches the rotors you would need to.
 
How big are stock rotors? I modified a cobra caliper bracket to run 11.6" 96+ Taurus rotors with cobra calipers on my SHO and that setup was amazing.

No Cobra calipers will fit if you switch to cobra rotors, which require a switch to cobra hubs or having the Mark bolt pattern drilled into the rotors.

And 99+ gt calipers will fit only the tbird/cougar rotors?

Yes they are a little smaller then the Mark rotors.

Actually.. You dont need cobra hubs for the front..

why not? you just need the rotors and calipers for the front, how to the rotors attach to the spindle if the bolt pattern is different?
 
I was going to say.. regardless if they came on a gt v6 or cobra... they will work. Just have to have abs rings.. but u can drill rotors to mark bolt pattern... It's actually very easy to drill rotors yourself with a drill press.

Non Cobra stang calipers will work with t-bird rotors which have the same bolt pattern. Cobra calipers require the bigger Cobra rotors which you would have to drill or do the hub swap for.

The t-bird/non cobra rotors are actually a little smaller then the stock Mark VIII rotors but the better calipers make it an upgrade. The Cobra stuff is even better but again needs the rotors drilled or a hub swap and a bigger wheel/tire combo as they will not fit behind 16"s
 
^ not necessarily. If you drill & tap the cobra caliper bracket holes 0.7" (center to center) up from where they were originally you can fit them to 11.6" rotors.

Have you done this or seen it done. Would doing this cause the integrity of the caliper bracket to be weaker? or is there alot of metal on the cobra brackets
 
I did this on my Taurus SHO - with 11.6" rotors - asme bolt pattern as the mark 8 too. There is plenty of metal on the bracket surface and I ran the setup for 20k before I sold the car. I never had a problem.

I needed to mill down the mating surface a bit to get it to fit right, but there still was plenty there.
