I have a 96 mark viii that is running hot, I overheated it three weeks ago trying to get unstuck from a snow drift. I replaced the thermostat, and radiator also tried burping the system. I checked the water pump and it is working fine. There is no white smoke out of the tail pipe. The temp gauge now stays at the highest limit of normal. Before the overheat the needle stayed between the M and the A, now it is at the top of the N.The car doesnt overheat it just runs hot. Could a sensor be bad?

I would check to see what the actuall tempurature really is first. try taking the temp at the x over tube with a themometer. I know that 210-220 is a normal temp for these cars, anyhow if it's around normal then I would try looking into a bad sensor. Hopefully it's just a bad sensor fooling your gauge.

There is still probably air in the system, do a proper burp through the coolant crossover tube.
