96 Mark tach issues

My 96 Mark is showing an erractic tach reading its like its pausing. it dosent repond at the same rate as the engine is. and the car drives fine. could it be the dc altenator, not sure if thats where the 4.6 picks up engine speed. We do that on John Deere and other deisel engines that use ECU control.

It could be that the gauge paper itself has lost its contact with the panel itself. What I mean is it could be the glue that holds the gauge face to the gauge itself. Look to see if the needle and the gauge face are rubbing. That could be the problem....it does not take much. It is an commonish problem for the Mark VIII's.

wow didnt even think of that, will check however i did forget to mention the day this started the car cut off and then i restarted it and the tach issue appeared that day. but i need to replace some dash lights anyways fo ill check it out thanks

You can use this to R&R the dash, replace the lights, and anything else related to the gauges.
