Does the engine come out the top or the bottom? What are the pros and cons of either way? Thanks.

Trans come out with engine if dropped out of the bottom but if you don't have a lift it'll be fun  Otherwise you gotta undo the trans pulled the regular way and I have not had to do either yet so someone can fill you in the on the time frames...

I have pulled an engine out the top with a transmission still bolted but it wasnt pritty. If she aint rusty pull her skirt up and remove from under the car.

if it is the first time for you pull it out tru the bottom with the trans. it is more work as you have to pull the driveshaft. BUT if you haven't had the motor and trans apart it will be easier than trying to get them separated in car. sometimes(very often) corrosion will set in thus causeing you much trouble getting them(bolts) to move for removal and separation of said trans and motor. also use good jack stands not cheap ones you are trusting your life on them.

Only time I have pulled engines out with trans was on GM cars that I could take the radiator support off. That way I could lift over the cross member and and pull it forward with the trans out. Otherwise it always wound up being a mess even with a plug in the tailshaft housing to keep all the trans fluid from leaking out.

I have lots of friends with lifts now but I just would hate to bug em to let me use them for a couple days.

Disconnect so chit up top and brace the motor.

Lift the nose up and unbolt stuff on bottom.
Set car back down with engine trolly under k-member.
Lift car back up with engine hoist.

Divorce trans and lift motor.

Reinstall in reverse order.

What would be a reasonable amount to pay someone to do an engine swap? To complicate things, the engine is siezed! Wouldn't be able to turn it to unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate.

Over $1k to swap an engine based on estimates I had. I think it was $1,600 that I was quoted just for labor.

I pulled my engine/trans out the top. Was very easy to do. Have to remove A LOT of stuff. But if you hit it hard it will not take long. I think the preferred method is pictured above. Taking it out at the bottom via disconnecting the k-member is probably the easiest.
