95 mark 8 lots of problems help

I hope someone can help with a few of the problems that I have. I have owned my 8 for 5 years. love it.... I don't have alot of money to take it to a mechanic to charge me for things that may or may not be bad....

The transmission seems to shutter in between gears at near cruising speeds like its trying to go back and forth into overdrive.

I have a problem with my radio. I turned it down and when I went to turn it back up there was no volume, it will pick up stations am & fm and t has a 6cd changer it will change and go thru cds but no volume very frustrating I have kids and with no radio its pretty boring... the radio won't even shut off

Also when I bought the car the door ajar message appeared I took it to have it looked at the dealership and they broke my door handle and never repaired it after months of requests.... anyway is it something simple to fix?

This is normally a sign of worn out fluid, which usually leads to torque converter clutch failure. You could try a fluid flush to see if it helps, otherwise mechanical repair is necessary

No sound is usually a bad amplifier. Does the car have jbl or standard stereo. If the screen won't go blank when you turn it off, then you have a bad stereo unit. You might have 2 problems there.

You need to replace the outside handle. Do a junkyard search, or contact "jamies97lsc" on the forum. He handles recycled MKVIII parts.

I was just at the LKQ (U-pull-it) in Bradenton, they don't have any Marks left. Jamie97lsc lives only about an hour North of you, so in a pinch, you can pick up the part at the shop instead of having to wait for it to ship.

And if you decide to do a transmission flush, make sure you flush out the entire system (drain the torquce converter, and make sure the radiator and lines are empty as well) and refill it using Mercon V or a synthetic like Mobile One.

Also come her first before you go to a stealership, LvC is much cheaper and will give you at many times better answers and support.

We do have some Ford Techs on the site plus enough gear head who have worked on the Mark VIII more than many ford techs.

Tranny Flush will cost you about $80 at a shop you want the flush to also clean out the old fluid out of the torque converter, also use Mercon V.

If the shudder continues I'd say your Torque converter is shot...

This could be as simple as the a.c. needing charged. Mine does the same thing... especially when the air is on. Drive the car at cruising speed and very lightly tap on the brake with your left foot while keeping you right foot on the throttle. You will hear the car rpm increase slightly. Is that the sound you are hearing?? This increase is the lock up torque converter doing its job. If you air needs charged, it can cause this problem. Do you notice it as much when the air is not on???

If it was me, I would replace it... I am not much of a radio mechanic.

As far as the door ajar message, spray you door latch with wd40. The switch is in the latch and they stick. After you spray it, open and close the door several times... the light should go out. As far as the handle, go back to the mechanic and kick it out of him.

If you've owned the car that long then I would guess that your tranny fluid needs to be changed as well as your tranny filter. While your at it I would also replace the 1-2, and the 2-3 accumulators. These are all easy back yard projects, but shouldn't take more than 2 hours time on a lift by a good shop. Costs : 14 Qts Mercon V @ $5.00 ea., Filter & Gasket $15.00, Valve body gaskets $15.00, Accumulators 2 @ $10.00 ea.. Be sure that the pipe plug in the TC is removed to drain it as well (there is alot of fluid in there).

This will give your trans alot of extra life, as well as fixing the shudder. Do a search and read up on the JMod if you want some improved shifting characteristics (plate drill, and spring delete's, trans coolers etc).

Its too bad your mechanic busted your door handle for you. The reason the light stays on is because there is a switch that sticks near the door latch mechanism, and is freed by just spraying WD 40 in the latch area. I have replaced 4 door handles on both my Mark 8's (yes all the doors) so it's not really a big deal. The originals were really cheaply made and the replacements I order from Max @ Five Star are much heavier in the web. I pay my body shop guy a flat $100.00 for painting and installing them, as my hands were not meant to fit inside the door frame to change them out. To me it's a good deal and the Red Cross can breath a sigh of relief that I haven't raided their Blood Bank.

If you are short on funds I would let the radio slide until you could find a nice aftermarket one XM capable what ever.

Tranny 1st!!! I love my car and have tried to take care of it... I love the speed ... yeah sometimes I race it...if a 5.0 mustang pulls up or someone in a rice burner...revin up their engine... I play a little....I smoke em... pretty good for a woman!!!! When I shift from 1st to 2nd I love the chirp of the tires...
