Can it be done with out a key? All posts and service manual say "insert key and turn to run". I can find nothing about removal with no key. Hoping to save some $$$ and not use a locksmith. I have a tumbler and key from a parts car.

it can be done.. but I would leave it to a locksmith.

there is a small pin that needs to be driven out.. if you do this wrong, you break the cast aluminum steering column and the new lock cylinder wont go in.

locksmith charges roughly 70.00 to do this for you.
it's little money well spent to prevent you from having to replace your steering column when you break the housing the holds the lock cylinder.
trust me... been there, done that.

70.00 is cheap insurance..imho

Johnny Taliban had mine done in 68 seconds, but if i had it to do all over again, i'd do it myself. ALLDATA calls for a small drillbit to the "pin" & out it comes. Johnny Jihad didn't use a drill, he had what looked like a small shank with a curved tip, a few taps later& he's saying " my friend...where is the auto zone?" to get a new cylinder. That was $140 but I was stuck at a gas station 20 miles from my garage & no one would tow my "lowered" car since it was stuck in park. If you can find someone to do it for $ 70 it's worth it. But it's not worth $140 to watch a guy do it in under 2 minutes.

drilling out pins is not fun, I lock smithed for a few years, save yourself the headache and pay the $70
