Ill be posting this in the FS section to. just wanted to get everyones attention....

I have a 8.8" Limited Slip Differential out of a 2004 mustang GT with 28,000 miles on it. it is in great condition, getting rid of my car so im going to sell this aswell. it is a 28spline as well.

100$ OBO + shipping

This will work with ILLS's Write up on dropping a 8.8" LSD into a 8.0" Rear end on a Lincoln LS, i beleive it will also work with any Mark Viii's as well.

Anyways, PM me if your intrested. I am a good seller with fast shipping and will answer any questions and provide tracking numbers.

Or does that have nothing to do with the LSD? I have no idea what's involved in the process. But I'd like to do the swap. Especially if this would allow me to gear up too.

not if its going in the lincoln... didn't the thread on that say you could only use the 8" ring gear and pinion because of backlash and pinion depth would be wrong....

That's on the second gens unless you swapped to the first Gen rear housing and axles. The first gens can fit a 4.10 gear with a trac-lok with no problems. I mean, there's only a sticky thread on the top of this forum explaining that.

The 4.10 Jason put in was a full 8.8" carrier and he had a custom drive shaft and mounts welded to the car to accomodate that.

You cant fit the 8.8 gears into any of the 8.0 carriers. You can only fit the 8.8 trak-lok diff into the 1st gen 8.0 carriers. The second Gen requires a custom made differential to fit into its carrier which I have.

hahahahaha tracloc is all you need! and I could have sworn the ring and pinion from an 8.8 doesnt work. you need the carrier and the 8" r&p

I have an eaton locking carier in mine but I used the stock r&p

oh yeah since it doesnt say this anywhere I have a 1st gen

That's what I meant. Brain fart. Muhbad.

Since we're talking 8.8 carriers...

I've got one sitting in my garage I snagged from my friend before it was determined you couldn't just drop it in with the Gen II pumpkin. It's 28-spline trak-lock. May or may not need a rebuild kit (I was going to rebuild it and add a couple friction disks myself... Id advise rebuilding it). Anyhow, first $50+shipping and it's yours.

PM me if you want it

Thanks. Even after reading the entire sticky, I'm still unsure of everything that's involved. For this kind of thing, I need to dig in and see it so I can understand.

it has no ring gear on it...

you need to use your stock ring gear for it to work in your stock 8" housing.

I can't believe this still gets mixed up.

No kidding right? It's not that difficult.

Gen 1 will take an 8.8 carrier swap into the housing. You must use 8" gears.

Gen 1 will take an 8.8 housing swap if you fab up a couple brackets and have a custom drive shaft made.

Gen 2 will NOT take an 8.8 carrier swap into the housing; the housing design is different.

Gen 2 will take an 8.8 housing swap if you fab up a couple brackets, have a custom drive shaft made and swap your half-shafts out to Gen 1 shafts (or have custom ones made).

THERE... it doesn't get explained much simpler than that!

It shouldn't be that difficult, but keep in mind some are less mechanically minded than others. And if they've never seen the innerds of a differential, and don't know the terminology involved, it makes it that much worse.

Good job of making it simple Nate.

I think it's more along the lines of, the 8.8" ring gear just plain doesn't fit into the 8.0 housing. Also to use the 8.8 you have to swap in a pinion that matches the ratio of the ring, and the 8.8 pinion doesn't fit into the 8.0 housing either.
With some machine work I bet you could get 'em both to fit, but the structural integrity of the housing would be compromised, and it would probably break and fall apart on the first launch.

Wait a minute..........Nate could you explain that again, I am confused.... ;)

Terminology or not, if they do not get the concept by now then they should not be wrenching on their own cars period. If a person wants to understand it enough the information is there in that thread. I stopped explaining it to people long ago. If they want the answer it is there in front of them if a little effort is made on their part.

I will say it from the cheapseats... PEOPLE, IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE MODIFICATION YOU ARE DOING THEN DO NOT DO IT; OR HAVE SOMEONE ELSE WHO KNOWS THEIR STUFF DO IT. PERFORMING MODS WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THEM CAN TURN OUT TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT GETS YOUR BUTT KILLED IF YOU DO SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE YOU ASSUME YOU KIND OF KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

My buddy saw a fella accidentally kill himself on the highway because his stupid ass didn't know anything about the mods that he thought he did right. Wheel hub flew apart at 70 mph, Jeep rolled, guy never had a chance. No disrespect to the departed but don't be THAT guy.

wait now I'm confused. So if the answers are ina thread and I roll a jeep, then I can have a posi 8.8 in my LS? :p

this a rear end people. People grenade these things all the time! If you dont have experience with it...dont touch it. shimmiing it in and lining it all up and yadda yadda yadda you can seriously mess this up easily if you are not 100% on this

No kidding. That's why I'm personally not going to do it. I was just wondering what materials to gather. My sister's fiance can do the swap for me. sheesh.

but good point about not performing work that you don't know about. That's why I'm going to watch, help, and learn.
