7in touch screen install questions

Once I fix my door on my 01 LS V8 and figure out what I will do for added security, I want to add this unit:

its a 7in DVD unit no NAVI.

I looked at this link:

So I know what dash kit I need I just want to know which main harness I need for a 01 and which steering wheel control harness I need, and if there is any thing else I would need. Also has anyone had any trouble issues with units like this or this specific unit when it comes to installation?

That fake panel is a good idea! What alarm are you thinking about getting?
 
Thats a nice unit.

+1 on the fake panel. They also sell one that looks like your radio has already been stolen or you're just missing it, it fooled me.

I'm getting a viper 5901 installed friday.

You'll love that unit. My brother has the same one. I got mine before the new ones came out, I have the 3100. I got it specifically because it didn't have nav, same with my brother. Not that the 4200 you're looking at has a motorized face. The 3200 does not, so it may be easier to use with that false face you are thinking of using. I have a 04 LS, my brother has a Ford 500. the units dropped right in both our cars with no issues. I didn't keep steering wheel controls because that was a costly option at the time, but somebody mentioned a easy and cheap product somewhere on here once with a amazon.com link.
 
I haven't decided if I will get an aftermarket alarm just yet, but for the time being I will get the light up Viper Alarm decal that is really bright and can just hook up to any alarm system and will light up like the factory red light but much more noticeable.

I also have to look more in to the fake cover and once I find more out on that I will let you guys know.

As for the wiring harnesses... here is what the above LVC link said they were using, but I am not sure that they are what I need for my year LS and my unit...

You don't honestly think a flashing decal is going to fool a thief that is interested in your LS, I would bet that the first thing he would do is slap the car to see if the alarm goes off, when it does'nt he knows there's no shock sensor and no other alarm than the factory one.

It not hard to add a shock sensor to your factory alarm, I added one to my 2000 LS after I added navigation(pic attached). I have the sensitivity set so it sets the alarm off if the folding door mirror is unfolded to keep someone from swiping the auto dimming glass.

LOL my alarm isnt quite that sensitive but mine will go off if my brother starts his truck next to the LS. but your right that qont stop a thief.
 
I picked up my car an hour ago with the viper alarm installed. The locking chirp sounds all sophisticated. I was playing with the remote start, it's pretty cool.
 
Not the phone module, that was 180 more, just key fob.The 5901 reaches 1 mile according to viper, which is more than enough for now I think. Cool thing about the phone module is that the signal will reach you however far your are as long as you have signal on your phone, I thought it was limited to the module's signal strength or something
 
Nope.. That's why you have to pay the yearly fee because it runs off sats..

That's cool.. Might have to buy me one someday.. Before that I need a V1.. :D
 
Yeah, I didn't know you needed a yearly fee either. Sounds like a cool ad on. V1 comes monday!
 
HELL YEAH. I thought i was going to have to spend around a grand to get a v1 and the viper alarm so I was going to wait a while to save up for that, but since I got the v1 cheap, I jumped on the alarm too.

not at all, the viper module is just basically a small cell phone modem, that works off of cellular service, and thats what you paying a service fee for. that is why for the system to work, both your phone and your car has to be in an area that has service, then just like a text message, the command are sent from your phone and received by the module in the car.

well that answers that.

also they are not joking about the "slight delay", when we install them, we have to log in to their network directly to test them, and from a computer with good internet, it can take anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds and i hear that coming from a phone can add up to 5 more seconds. its definitely cool thats for sure, but i couldn't rely on it alone and would still have to keep my remote on my keys. not to mention, you cant control any of the aux channels from the phone (i have windows up, windows down, and gas tank release on extra channels 1,2, and 3)
