has anybody tried it? stock is a 6x8 and i know in a couple of my other vehicles where 5.25 speakers were in the doors 6.5s were able to be fitted pretty easily. the biggest issue i could forsee would be mounting depth clearance but just seeing anybody's input on this before i go ahead and tear my door panels off to find out.

I just recently put some infinity speakers in my doors...you can search to find the thread cuz there's a lot of helpful info...EVERYONE has told me that 6X9 will NOT fit.

i figured that much. i guess i'll just have to get ballsy and see for myself. my passenger front has started to crackle at certain notes and i scored a set of like new infinity reference 5x7s and 6x9s for free so i'll make one of the sets fit.

I have the reference 5X7's and they fit perfectly and sound great...When you go to replace them, you'll notice the factory hook up for the speakers won't work on aftermarkets. However, they do make an adapter/harness that works perfectly - Another member (1loud ls) informed of it and I picked mine up at best buy at the installation section. Works great and saves a bunch of time.

Yep. I really like those adapters. Plus, reinstallation of the stock speakers is really easy if you ever sell the car.

Why don't you take the 6x9's, and mount them in the rear shelf? Just tap into the harness at the head unit, and run wires back? Really easy.

6x('s are a different dimension, its like trying to fit a 16:9 TV into a 4:3... the 5x7 is just a smaller version of the 6x8, their cheaper so you can get the next level up for same price.

i'm going to leave the factory 6x9 subs for a little while. i'd like to do something among the lines of bypassing them and running a pair of 10s off that signal wire later with a separate dedicated amp

dang. i just put some new hertz 5x7"s in all the door speakers. would have been nice to know about those adapters. ( cut, strip and butt connect with a bit of room for re installation was the method i used to do the job)
also a new pioneer avic-x910bt gps / cool ass head unit got put in as well.

The biggest problem is that the speakers don't just mount in to a hole in the door that can be cut bigger, they mount into a speaker adapter that moves it out from door for clearance issues. 6x9's tend to be a bit deeper than 6x8s. Cutting the adapter will be tricky and will probably need to have any gaps filled in

5x7's and 6x8's are all usually the same size baskets. For some reason it is standard with all most every speaker company. I personally would go with 6.5 componets over a 6x9. Are you going with a 2 way or 3 way speaker? Are you replacing stock or upgrading with amps also? I had 2 sets of 6.5 components in my LS in the doors. They were JL AUDIO ZR's. And I put 6x9's in the rear deck just for filler sound, They were JL AUDIO also. Powered by Alpine PDX amps.

Agreed! I'm on my second all alpine setup. It was an easy fit to get 6.5" in the doors. Type R's all around. Wish I would have gotten components for the front though. Rounded off with one sealed type R in the trunk. All powered by alpine amps and the Alpine double din DVD head unit. IT ROCKS.

The 6X9 is not going to work in the door unless you feel like doing some heavy modification which will probably take reconfiguring the speaker basket that it sits in. Just get a good set of 6x8 speakers. I have Inifinty Kappas in my doors on a four channel amp and it sounds dam good. Loud enough to where, if i'm inside my apartment it sounds like I have a sub or something in the trunk.

I originally had Alpine everything in the car including a Type X 12" sub. The head unit was a wa200 and all the components and 6 x 9's were alpine they were the Fx series. I normally wouldn't mix them but when I replaced them with the JL's, I found myself in total shock and just amazed in the difference. Hands down those were the best speakers I had ever owned. They do run 850.00 a set though.

bull sh!t you cant mix&match:D

i do love my Type R's in the doors, but alpine didnt make somthing with quite as much bass or hit as low as i would like, so i had to go with kicker for the lows

well turns out mine had the 5x7 separate two way mach audio speakers in it. the infinity 5x7s seem to carry a tad fuller sound and a decent more volume from them so i'm happy. especially for free
