I'm getting ready to dive into my trans per the process in this post-

The thread above is for the 5R55N, so I don't need to do the Main Pressure Regulator Spring, but I do need to replace the Line Pressure Relief Valve.

For me, the Line Pressure Relief Valve is just a name and I can't figure out where it goes. Is it part of the valve body, or somewhere else?

I am planning to replace the following:

Fluid
Filter
Trans Pan Gasket
Solenoid Pack
Line Pressure Relief Valve (if I can find it!)
Servos from here (http://www.fordservoboretransmissionfixsolution.com/)


Can anyone tell me where the relief valve goes and provide any other suggestions on what I should replace? I looked in the shop manual and could not find it. I'm betting it's in there, but I couldn't find it.

General issues with the trans are:

Intermittent issues with engagement into drive primarily at startup cold weather
Harsh shifts
When in OD, car will sometime rapidly shift between 4th and OD
 
It looks like the kit may come with the relief valve, correct?

Does the kit have instructions or do I need to read the shop manual?

I think it does does come with the relief valve. And it does come with instructions. Its very easy to install
 
It's been a while for me since I posted this, but I am now finally getting around to doing this.

I'm not doing the servo replacement, so I don't think I have any real need to remove the transmission.

Is it true that I can install the transgo kit without removing the valve body? I've read from other posts that springs can go flying when you remove it and I'm frankly worried about it.

Also, do I need the SK 5R55W kit or the 5R55W-HD2 kit? The first one is about 1/2 the price of the second one.

Is this a good place to by the solenoid pack from? http://www.transmissioncenter.org/5r55s_mustang_v6.htm

The valve body has to come out to install the kit. You need the orange SK kit. Buy the solenoid pack from a Ford dealer, and make sure to get the latest version with the part number starting as "9". Tascaparts.com has it for $300.
 
So I did everything and now it won't go in drive. Reverse is fine, but when I put the gear selector in any forward gear, nothing happens (like it's in neutral).

I thought I found a post in the forums where it is east to mis assemble something during this process, but I can't find it now. If anyone has some thoughts, let me know. For now, I thinking of putting the old solenoid in and seeing what happens.

Solenoid was from tasco.

Define "I did everything" for us. It sounds like you might have mis-assembled the valvebody. It does not sound like a solenoid issue. It is also possible that you did not reconnect the shift linkage properly, or there is not enough fluid.
 
I did the valve body, using the orange transgo kit, - based on the parts I removed, it looks like someone else already did the valve body but I did it again anyway. I replaced the EPC reliefs, the OD Servo control (yellow) springs, and the RS ISA Select (green) spring. I removed and re-installed (without any changes) the New Lockup Valve. The parts I removed for the new lockup valve didn't look like what the instructions said the original equipment was, and I was getting confused, so I put the parts I removed back in place.

I replaced the solenoid form tasco, and I replaced the trans filter. I connected the valve solenoid connector and it seemed to slip in easily, but it's impossible to tell if I bent a pin or something without removing the solenoid. There are no errors coming up, so I'm guessing everything is talking as needed.

I saw a post somewhere about the shaft linkage - but I can't find it now for what I should specifically look for. This is where I think my problem is, but I don't know look for, and the service manual doesn't help.

I followed the instructions on the bottom of the pan for installing fluid - I'll check it again before I take anything apart and confirm.

I didn't connect the shift linkage up to the valve body when the valve body was re-installed.

All works fine now.

I have the shop manual and it doesn't mention this anywhere.

The hardest part of the job is removing the solenoid connector. You MUST have a stubby 3" ratcheting 10 mm wrench ( and then it only takes about 30 minutes ).
