if i venture over 4.10 will something bad happen? i cant help but wonder why im about to buy a 4.30 with 4.56 4.88 and 5.13's in stock at summitracing... would 456 or 488 be out of the question? i have a 93 with a one pc shaft and i tend to lean toward the "go big or go home" theory..

ps. dont race audi s8tt's... i got a head start, a dirty look, and when the dirty look was over, the twin turbo 40 valve v8 had me wondering what just happened

430s are going pretty big. If you arent running slicks I wouldnt go any higher. I doubt the 93 driveshaft would be able to handle any more either, 430s may give it a hard time.

Midnightrftr, not sure if i spelled it right, has 4.30's, he seems to enjoy them.. even with his straight pipes :o

I am in this gear ratio position. I can get a set of 3:73 for cheap money but as long as I am doing all the work I am thinking 4:30 while I am there. Main thing I have not seen is if there is a speedo gear to go with the 4:30 ratio:confused:

hey man, there aren't any factory s8's with turbo's, the north american version is normally aspirated....decently fast cars tho - was it custom turbo?

It all depends on what you are doing. You also have to factor in what size tires you will have because the total diameter of the tire will affect which gear you want to use.

all i know is he was driving normal, i floored it, when i got a car length ahead he floored it and flew passed me so fast.. man if i said he passed me instantly that would be an understatement.

gears

I have 4.30s and have had for a long time now.Personally they are good and bad, as a naturally aspirated car they work nicebut spraying I dont like as much

I think they are a good choice for a mild to stock car, but with modifications I would prefer a 3.73(i mean when i am spraying 125 shot to her )

Well as comfortable as my Mark VIII is and even with the good MPG it is just trying to piss me off! I think I am gonna sell it while the selling is good with it and pick up a GN or something to that extent:shifty:

if you went into the 5's for rear gears, would you even be able to get down the 1/4 without going into o/d?

Going with any numerically higher gear than 4.30's is just insane in most any car. Those are rock crawling truck gears. lol. Not racing gears.

Even with 4.30's you would probably have severe traction problems even if you had a whimpy engine which you don't. There is a point you go past where the more gear you have the less useable power you have due to significantly less traction.

Unless your running a centrifugal supercharger, turbo, or other mod that requires high rpms and running with slicks out the back i would suggest sticking to 4.10 gears or smaller. After all you want to use the power, not waste it.

I daily drove a 1971 R/T Challenger with a 440 in it with 4:56 gears for over a year. Drove 60 miles a day with it to work in North Brunswick and back. Yeah it was a pain on the Hi-way cause it did wind that Big Block but it was better than my M725 Kaiser/Jeep with 5:87 gears on 35" tires. Sucked going down the Parkway with that thing:eek:
