So my rear air bags leak to the point that the car bottoms on the road. So I ordered a new pair from Arnott on EBAY. So while tearing into it to put in the bags I decided to put in the 8.8 I had set up with 4:10 gears at the same time.

That and I had a 93' one piece drive shaft waiting for me to do the swap. Was a royal pain getting the axls out and then back into the rear but the drive shaft was a quick deal to swap in.

Only thing that was strange was that I was told it has a speedo cable but when I went to put in the gear it is an electronic speedo :shifty:

I guess 96' is the first year then? Anybody out there know?

So just took a test drive around the block cause it's kinda late. Felt like I should have gone with the 4:30 gears now but it does 2000 rpm at 55 so thats not to bad for now.

Did you have the speedo recalibrated? If you changed the gear ratio with out the recal, you are not at 55mph. I don't think the MKVIII ever had a speedo gear.

I went from 3.27 to 3.73 and my speedo is less than 2 MPH off according to my GPS. I dont know how far off 4.10s would make you.

I changed the speedo gear to a White gear from the green gear it had. I is supposed to be a 4:10 gear as far as I know but I have to drive by a radar speed limit sign to try to get an estimate as to how close it is?

The thing is it's an electronic speedo so I should be able to fine tune it if it is not with a ECU flash?

The fact that it has a speedo gear does not necessarily imply that it is a cable driven speedometer. The speed sensor that runs the electronic speedo is gear driven, and the only ways to correct are a gear or a speedcal. A tune will not correct it.

this is because youre a 2G. speed is measured at the wheels. gear ratio has nothing to do with it.
