4.10 / gear swap question

Hey,

Will be swapping the stock 3.07 and open read end to a 4.10 w/ track-lok within the next 2 weeks, will i be okay to get thea gears installed before having the j-mod or tune installed? i havent purchased the tune yet, and the j-mod is sitting in my room with the rest of my parts, i really need to get my car back on the road again and was jsut gonna have someone install the gears, rebuild the track-lok, and install my new cv axles, drive shaft and differential/ carrier bushings all at once for simplicity, should i have the j-mod done first, just kinda concerned with the added rpm's on the stock trans without a cooler or anythign installed, and i wont be able to afford to have it done until atleast a week or two after the gears, will i be fine, or should i just hold off for a few more weeks and do the cooler, j-mod and order the boc tailshaft first, or just go ahead and proceed with the gears. thanks for everyone's input.

it will be fine.

worst case you rev limit bounce on the 1-2 shift.

Alright cool, so not having the j-mod installed yet wont be an issue either right? i have 134k on the original trans, i plan on having it done soon just havent gotten around to it yet.

just don't drive like NASCAR til you JMOD and put a cooler on it.

Okay sounds good lol. so basically no manual shifting or anything but if i wanted to do a few quick 0-60's with leaving the car in Drive i shouldnt have to worry though? thanks for all your help dude.

You will NEVER shift better then the computer. On all my record runs, I just put it in drive and go. Also what year is your trans?

Im sure of your right lol, i was jsut asking if my trans would hold up if i wanted to get on it a little bit before i jmod it and add a cooler after the gear swap. My trans is the '97, its nowhere near as strong as the redisgned one they did in '98 up, which i know you already know too lol

IIRC, it was actually a mid/late 97 change.
so you might have the updated trans.

Travis, steeper gears will not cause you temperature issues with your transmission. Things will just be happening quicker. DLF ran his car without the JMOD until just a couple years ago. You could run a smaller Hayden transmission cooler if you're feeling feisty but you aren't really going to necessitate the need for one until you put a stall converter in the transmission. Don't worry about heat at this point.

DLF had helped me swap my trans and repin the harness for my 96 to accomidate the 98, so now if i have a problem i can just swap in the 98 no more rewire needed. just plug and play. Also did the Jmod at the same time and i still have the factory cooler on it. Dam Im going to miss that guy.

while you are in the transmission doing the jmod. spend the extra cash and put new pressure control solinods and what not in there. its worth it in the long run. i went with a dirty dog transmission plate instead of a standard jmod. i had more miles on it and i dont have a cooler but it still runs nice. its a little firmer then i like in 1-2 some times it kicks the car a little to the side but hey its great fun at wide open throttle.
