Is there anyone in the Indiana area that will cut the third cat off and replace with and x-pipe? I can't find anyone. This is :bsflag:

when i went to the parts store for a catalytic converter on a 94 mk8 they said there was 3 of them 2 very small ones and one main cat...i cut the 2 small ones out and got a high flow main cat.

Why are you trying to find anyone that did it, just do it... Its not like your replacing the whole system, just an unmonitored cat. Cut, weld and drive. ITs wont make much a difference anyway. Its the primary cats that are the nasty ones and why mine are out but my third is in.

Gotta love those communist emission states.

IIRC the third "cat" is not a cat, but a Resonator. Nothing under federal law that says you can't have the resonator removed.

the 3rd cat is in fact a cat. the base models have a resonator further back. the LSCs dont have this resonator at all

i agree. Its called a secondary cat. What most cars with one exhaust pipe and cat do in the one, the responsibilities of the cat are split up between the two. It takes both cats (primaries and secondary) to properly remove most contaminants from the exhaust gases.

Just cut the cat then drive it to the shop and have them do the rest.

If you want you can put a Magnaflow 2 in 2 out muffler where the resonator was is and then run 2.5" pipe the rest of the way.

You then have true duals. Cost about $350..

Plus the Magnaflow Muffler comes with a built in X pipe.
