yes i know i know this has been covered, but for some reason i can never get the freakin search function to work! I want to remover the 3rd cat on my gen2 and do an x pipe but cant remember if that will set off the check engine light or not.. could someone please enlighten me? thanks!

I may be wrong. But from what I've heard the 3rd cat is unmonitored and you can do whatever you'd like to it. That's what they do with the lms system, is cut out the 3rd cat and resonator and replace with the double x pipe. I'm going to do it to my car once I find a decent shop in RI. And when I get the money of course.

GO FOR IT!

Yup you got it.

Loss of 3 mpg.

Because you'll keep romping it to hear it!

Yep I was doing that this afternoon.

I drove over to the exhaust shop so constrictive and drove home a LOT faster.

18mi each way.

Used cats sell for a ton at scrap yards I bet you could get 100 dollars for that thing at the right place

Correct me if I am wrong, but its not a cat, its a resonator. But I can tell you it wont cause a CEL. I have the dual Xpipes myself with Genos assassinator mufflers.

GEN 1's use four converters that converge into single pipe then a resonator. GEN 2's use two primary cats followed by a twin chamber 3rd cat "actually two cats in one".

I think you got it backwards...

Gen 1's had 3 cats. Two small cats behind the exhaust manifolds and one large cat where the pipes come together. After the thrid cat is a resonator followed by two mufflers at the rear bumper. The Gen 1 LSC has the two small cats followed by a third cat with two 'in' and two 'out' pipes followed by true dual exhaust and two mufflers at the rear bumper. I'm not sure about the Gen 2 base model, but the Gen 2 LSC had the same exhaust setup at the Gen 1 LSC. My Gen 1 '96 base has the two small cats, "Y" pipe where the 3rd cat used to be, factory resonator for inspection purposes, and straight pipes where the original factory mufflers used to be. Sounds great and it felt like it gained a few ponies after I finished with it.
