34mpg?

In a 94 Mark8 w/250k km's? Well, that's what my trip computer said.

Purely highway (not even accelerating down the on-ramp), about 65mph steady.

Can 34mpg really be accurate? We noticed on the way home it was about 26mpg, there was a head-wind though, as well our speed varied with traffic - up to 75mph.

Did you reset it before you did it? My 97 LSC usally gets about 25mpg highway.

I would always check doing the actual math, Miles/Gallons of fuel used...

on trips over 200 miles, strictly highway driving, I have gotten over 28 (measured at the pump) but that was driving it a steady speed around 60-65, no stops, watching the fuel estimator I saw averages higher like 32-33, I think driving it normally, you should still get over 25 highway, driving city mileage is much less though-like 14 or 15, and if you like to get on it from light to light, even that would look good.

Heavy car/mass with a fairly large V-8, I wouldn't buy one for the gas mileage.

i saw over 30mpg from portland to grants pass, or.

once i got over the mountian range i saw 30+ again down to sacramento.

I have gotten as much as 31mpg driving from Madisonville KY to Nashville TN. thats nonstop and checking at the pump. Those highway gears are good for something. LOL

Next stop 4.30 gears... I'll be happy with low 20's on the freeway...

My old 94 did an honest 31mpg, computer and pump verified. This was on a 70mph cruise, on a road that has a decent number of hills, with a 5000-7500' altitude range... 34 would be plausible on a flat road doing 65mph (although my mileage didn't get better under 70 or so.)

My new 93 with 4.11s and old ass O2 sensors gets about 23-24 on the trip I described above.

Best I've done is 32 mpgs.. ave on trips about 28 mpgs depending on how I'm driving.

On a standard trip from Boscobel to Madison 80 miles with Hwy speeds of 60 mph and 70 mph with 5 small towns to drive through I can get 29-30 mpgs. I've measured this both way.. with the computer and with the good old mathimatics..

My CE was getting around 22 this summer... but I have a bit of a lead foot. Going to put new O2's plugs and such in it and see if I can get those numbers up a wee bit.

Our trip was a mere 200 miles out of the last tank, which is used mainly for short local trips (15-20 miles), so getting an accurate measurement by mathematics is out.

We knew we weren't going to average the 34 over the whole trip, just the highway portion.

Checked the elevation - turns out it's downhill the whole way there (285 meters about sea level at home, to 71 meters above sea level to where we were going), about a 600' drop over 100 miles or so.

Just interesting to know that the highway mileage is in the 30's, right up there with the average V6 .

The 4.30's in my Cougar really make mileage suffer on my short trips - about 15mpg average - if I'm lucky!
