ok guys just like the title says. Today at 5:00pm im going to be heading from south miami to n. ft myers. now my car is already due for an oil change the messege display is already warning me. my question is would it be safe for me to do the trip and then change the oil right when i get back, or to do it now before i headout, im taking all suggestions. my car has all brand new coils and plugs its a v8 with 83,000 miles.

Change every 3 months or 3000 miles. If you don't drive the LS much, you could go every 4 to 5 months. "Much" meaning less then 3000 miles in that time period.

I change mine every 5 months. Because I don't drive 3000 miles in that time. But I do drive. Just not a lot of miles.

I wouldn't trust the message center. I replaced my cabinet filter. Two months later the message center said it was over 50% wear. It was springtime. I wasn't even using the A/C or heater. I was driving around with the windows down most of the time.

When in doubt, change your oil. Don't take chances.

Oil change less then $20.
Replacing blown motor $6000.
Common sense priceless.

I would assume the stock message center to be 5000 miles. I would take the car to jiffy lube if you have to before i'd drive it. Unless it's a beater LOL.

Wow, no way. 5k miles or 6/mo. is what factory requires. 3k/3mo. is unnecessary.

5k miles is where Im at. Run through the warning and reset it, then at about 65 - 75% wear on the second run through it's time to change :D

My dealer suggested every 3 or 4 months. Since I don't put that many miles on my LS. I was told every 5 or 6 months.

Honestly, its all on the owner. The factory may suggest 5/6 months or 5000 miles. But do you really want to take the chance? You know if the something goes wrong. The dealer and manufacture will leave you swinging in the wind.

My V6 has been getting synthetic (Mobil1, now Royal Purple) every 10K miles for the last 150K miles. It still runs great and uses no oil between changes.

IMHO, 300 miles isn't an issue unless you're over 7500 miles on the present oil.

With good oil its easy to put the miles on it, but I do not go much beyond the 3 month period. I do not drive most of the cars enough to get to the 3000 mi mark but still like to change it 3-5months depending on the driving habits during current oil. Changed the balts oil twice in a month and a half, just cause I had it down the strip a good 20 or so times after the first change and a good amount of tuning which involved a good amount of pulls.

I decided on going without the change and she made it back in one peace, now tommorrow off to discount auto parts for that oil change. thanks for all the inputs.

Its just freaking oil for goodness sakes.. sheesh.. Really how bad does your oil have to be to blow a motor?? That's right, you would have to have none!

IMO oil changes are meant to keep you from cycling slurry garbage full of fuel and nastiness from circling through your high tolerance, high friction parts. But other than that.. f-it! Skip an oil change who cares??

True, my g/f's corolla ran about a year without an oil change and when it did get one it had at best a quart come out haha, car has almost 150K too and still no problems. But I advise against a prolonged change.
