I promise to nicer if you promise to be smarter.
I'm getting an alternator rebuilt for the Mark VIII. The gentleman I've been in contact with is telling me the he can rebuild the altrnator to 300 AMPS.

Would that be a bit overkill? I don't have a booming stereo, under car lights, or a magnetic field generator installed in the car.

Oh... no magnetic field generator? I though you did have one. I must be confusing you with Cal and his "reality distortion field generator".

Its probably over-kill. Starting in 96, Mark VIIIs left the factory with 160 AMP. I think thats sufficient. But 300 is only 40 amps more, and if you want to install your field generation, plasma rifles or vibrating seats at a later date, you will have enough power and ready to go!

Just don't mention the sheep cloning add-on to you know who... or someone may steal you 300 amp alt.

You didn't do that well in Math, did you....
I don't want a magnetic field generator... I hear it causes hair loss. (Trust me, that's funny).

I figured an extra 140 amps might be a bit overkill for a relatively stock application. Maybe I can put some nology wires on the car then, and get 1,000,000 wats out of them...?

Im sure by reading the Toyota post that plasma gun would come in pretty handy, you can obliverate those damn little miny groundhogs to dust.

i forget the exact number/letters...the one with the dual action receiver i think.... almost no recoil...id give a nut to shoot that.

sorry i dont know my 50cal rifles all too well....

More important than the maximum amps is the output at idle.

Have him do a 200 amp build and field test the output with a graph displaying the output vs. rpm. Calculate the rpm of the alternator vs the crank rpm at idle(I think the stock ratio is 2.8:1?). Then see what your proposed output will be.

Thermal decay is usually prevalent on these units so that could pose a future problem with any electrical toys. They don't put out near as much at ide when hot.

Ok, I have to stop working on REAL cars and get back to working on the Mark VIII :P lol Ya, 120 up to 95, 130 amp from 96 on.... . god, too many numbers on my mind! lol

Make sure to upgrade the charging wire too as the oem stuff is barely adequate for the stock alternator...
