3 Lugs will hold?..... Right?.....LOL

Weirdest thing happen on the way home from getting my hair cut. I was just leaving town. Speed limit is 55mph. I felt the rearend kick sideways. I was going in a straight line.:confused: I pull over to check things out. First thing I notice. One of my lug studs and part of the bolt is laying next to my driverside rear tire on the ground. I take a closer look. One stud is gone. I have another in my hand. I check the remaining 3 lugs. One is lose. I could turn it with my finger tips. The other two are tight. I call the wife. I have her bring me my four-way, lug socket/key, and floor jack. I tighten the remaining three lugs down tight. Drove it to a local tire shop that I deal with and parked it.

Only thing I can figure is. At the time, I was mounting the driverside rear. I got side track with something and didn't finish tighting them down with the four way. I did go around the car and check the other three wheels. Everything was fine. I guess I was lucky that I felt it and stopped to check. Before it actually fell of the car.:eek:

I'd say yeah very fortunate..
Similar scary situation happened to me when I got the tires mounted, the valve stems didn't hold air at all and I left the tire shop, and my car felt like it had 0 control. The lowpro's didn't appear to be flat but they basically had no air in them!

Local tire shop take care of ya?

I seemed to have misplaced some dynamite when I was last in MO. You haven't seen it have ya? LOL

In all seriousness, I'd just replace all the studs and check the hub to see if it's tweaked/bent. Might check the rim too to make sure it didn't get jacked up. Still a lot better then dropping to the body/frame/etc. That'd easily have ruined your day (and your car).
 
Lucky you! I lost a rear wheel on I-95 several years ago due to a similar issue. That was a fun day. You should be ok on the couple studs to move it around until you can fix it.
 
Close call Rollin...make sure none of the holes in ur new Sentas got ovaled out. I had that happen on a STS I used to have and it ruined the wheel holes
 
they say you should always go back and check after 100 miles or so... Guess i'll start doing that...
 
Good to hear you got to it before it fell off completely and you didn't mess your seat like I may have had I felt the same thing.

+1 on replacing the studs.

I checked and tighten the other three on the spot. The one stud I found was a clean snap.

Bad timing thou. No time to fix it till saturday. So having a local tire shop I deal with replace all five studs.
 
I hope you are using the right lug nuts for the Sentas with the washers like the Sebring ones. The stock lug nuts are not a good option for this wheel.
 
That could've been bad, good thing you caught it. It happened to me too, but I had only gone one block when I remembered so I quickly but slowly went pulled over to tighten them.
 
Glad everything is ok Rollin. Make sure everything is torqued to spec. Don't let them use an air wrench. Those will stretch the studs.
 
This is getting irritating.:confused:I picked the LS. Had five new studs installed driverside rear. Drove it about 20 miles. Notice a "clicking" noise from the same rear corner. Got it home. Now, I had to purchase a new set of lugs to replace the one that was lost. So, I only had four on that driverside rear. I get home. I put the fifth lug on. Tighten it down. I check the other four. two were "very" lose. I tighten all five down. then checked the other three tires. Everything is nice and tight. Took the LS for a drive. No more "clicking" noise. I plan to check them again in a few days. Make sure nothing is lose. Not sure what to do, if they keep coming lose. I am using the "acorn" shape Dorman lugs. I have NEVER had trouble with that brand before. See what happens.

No. I am using the same ones miara uses with Jag wheels. I will check them everytime I drive the LS. See if it becomes a recuring issues. Hopefully, its just a matter of torqueing them thie one time. See what happens. The LS drives nice and smooth. So I pick up on any little thing with the ride.
 
Maybe the bores got screwed up? ... either way I hope you get it worked out bro

I had to edit my title. I don't think anyone got my joke. I knew three would hold long enough for me to get it some where to fix it. I just could be going 55mph.
