I have an 05 with the 3.9L. Today my upper radiator hose failed. I'm not sure if anyone else has found this problem, but none of the local auto parts stores even have a part number for it. I found one online (link below).

My concern is that they don't look completely identical. Any input? Also, if you've changed this part in the past, where did you get it?

EDIT: The part that doesn't seem consistent is the left side shown in the picture below.

Have you tried Napa? They are usually well stocked(even if it has to be ordered) on hoses.

Went to them first. They couldn't find it in their computer or their books. Same story with AutoZone and O'Reilly's.

No they only have the lower one. Anyways a light bulb in my head went on and I had Napa search for it for the Thunderbird. So I'll have it on Tues.

If you are wise, you will order most of the rest of the plastic cooling system parts and replace them now too. In my case, all failed within weeks of each other. These parts include the front and back thermostat housings, the upper and lower radiator hoses, the degas bottle, and one more that I don't recall what it was called.

Agreed. It's over $500 worth of plastic:( The DCCV is also plastic.

Guess I was lucky. Only my Degas Bottle cracked. Replaced it but nothing else 50,000 miles ago. Dccv just started showing issues in August.

Hell, 207,000 miles. Original engine, alternator, water pump, and fuel pump. Not the norm.... but I know that I have been blessed. Anyone wanna buy a hell of a good high mileage motor for a "very" low price? LOL.

i had that problem too, i went to a radiator shop and they make me one out of metal pipes, and clamped the hoses. never had a problem with it pretty good solution because the dealer wanted like 250 bucks and i only paid 50 for that fix.

i can take a pic if you want

I just replaced mine about # months ago I called my local dealer and got it the same day $67.00

if you are interested im sure they would send it to you it's Bobby Ford in Richwood ,Texas

Yeah I was reading around on other cooling system threads and that seems to be the case for the majority of people. It'll have to wait a couple weeks so until then I'll have duct tape and coolant in the trunk.

I'd wager it is the norm. The LSes represented here are a small percentage of the ones sold. I haven't had major issues with any of our LSes. Nothing other than normal wear and tear; and I consider plastic pieces are wear and tear after 7+ years.

Yep..just had it replaced 2 weeks ago. They charged me a FULL price of $96 for the hose (dealer part, Motorcraft) and then labor. OUCH!

I just didn't have the time to do the work myself and this is my daily car. Can't afford to have overheating issues when it is 110 outside.

I believe another dealer in the San Diego area cracked this when replacing a water valve 2 weeks earlier.

Ford Parts shows it for approx. $86 at:

I bought mine from Max at "five star ford" I literally changed it last night, call max at 1-800-866-1520 Ext. 236 The add is on the top right corner of the page here.
I think i payed $60, You might want to see if your DCCV is bad, my upper radiator hose went out because my dccv was locked in the heat position only.

Interesting theory, but I don't think it's valid. The plastic Tee in the upper hose on my 04 failed without any DCCV failure.

Do not try to get the upper radiator hose for the 2nd gen from anywhere else except ford. You will not get the correct part. I've never had such a difficult time getting any part before, nevermind it just being a hose. I think ill just go straight to ford from now on.
