Stolen from my own facebook post:

duude. I made a post a lil while back showing off my stock water pump with its weird aluminum spacer and plastic adapter.. And two people told me they'd never seen that design before. I had -- both on my car *and* rockauto. But it was right alongside another design that *didn't* have a plastic adapter or weird rubberized aluminum spacer.

Why care? A plastic adapter between the water pump and the engine is just not cool. So I wanted to switch for the other design if possible. Took a chance and compared the two side-by-side with some calipers. It's good to go. (well, haven't installed yet, but it measures up)

If you have the shitty 5 bolt design, there's a way to tell! It only has 5 bolts on it instead of 7.
The revised version is two metal pieces sandwiched together with a multi-layer steel gasket (hence the additional bolts), and then another MLS gasket between that assembly and the engine. Despite utilizing different mounting surfaces, both designs are compatible.. it's weird that the engine-side is machined for both designs, but.. had the plastic adapter version on it.

Whatever. Here. Check it out. Whole mess of pics.
