i was driving like i was last time jsut minding my own business when i noticed white smoke coming from the hood and it was the main hose coming from the radiator. im guessing there was too much pressure in the system and it caused the hose to pop off and i remember last time this happened i made sure everything was on tight? any guesses?

Do you have the Ford spring clamp on there or one of those screw adjust type clamps?

I've found that the screw type don't hold very well. If you are using a screw type, then use two of them. Place one a 1/4" from the end of the hose, and the other just before the holder ridge on the radiator hose port.

Otherwise, you might check to see if your engine mounts are bad and letting the engine twist too much. It's not a matter of too much pressure. The cap on the degas tank limits the pressure to 16 PSI. If it failed and let the pressure go higher than that, it would blow out the seal on the water pump before it would blow a hose off.

thanks, im using the screw type so ill get another one and do wha you suggested. im going to do a flush and see if overheats or anything like that, last time i checked the guy sed my thermostat was fine and the water pump wasnt leaking any coolant, so im kind of stumped...

I was unable to reuse the spring clamp on the top radiator hose (it bent), at the radiator on my 04. I put a screw clamp on and put it pretty tight, but I was afraid to go too tight and crack the plastic of the radiator side tank. After a test drive, I saw that the hose was about to pop off. I put another clamp on and positioned the two clamps as indicated. I put them a little tighter this time too. So far (about one and a half months), that has held good and the hose hasn't moved back any.

A hose clamp is tight when you can't twist the hose it's holding. Old mechanics trick, and you will never break the plastic this way. I do it everyday.

And if it was overpressure due to overheating the cap would pop off the pressure at 14-15 LBS.
