Just got back from the track tonight. Jason and I decided to take the LS's out to the track for a few runs to see what kind of times we can lay down. I turned yet another new best time with the LS V8 tonight. I still think it has 14.2's in it as it sits. Either way here is a break down of my last timeslip of the night.

R/T ... .174
60' ... 2.244
330 ... 6.159
1/8 ... 9.339
MPH ... 78.11
1000 ... 12.050
1/4 ... 14.341
MPH ... 98.03

Not too bad at all for a vehicle with less then $250 in mods! :D

Jason ran his 2002 LS to a new best of 15.04 @ 93 MPH! That is not bad at all considering he still had his 20's on tonight. Once he takes those off and tunes with an Xcal, he will be WELL within the 14's with his car.

While 14's may not be very quick when compared to some cars, it still is pretty respectable.

Smooth and quiet, just like a Lincoln is supposed to be.

Not that I ever plan to do an exhaust on this thing, but it was too quiet on the video tape!

The lack of exhaust noise made the car look a lot slower than it really is in the video. I think I almost yawned when I watched the video of my LS. hehehe.

Better to be quiet and fast, than loud and slow. There was a couple of those loud and slow cars there, and a few slicked slow cars too WTF.

Touche! ;)

That is some damn good numbers. I'd like to see what it would be like with a different exhaust system.

So you LS guys think you can run with us Mark VIII guys? :)

Hmmm. Think we need to have a smack-down meet!

Supposedly they dont make a cat back system for my 05, but when you say you wonder what it would be like with a different exhaust, what do you recommend?

I think he was just speculating the potential for improvement with exhaust. The 03 exhaust wasn't produced because it didn't seem like one that could produce a noticeable increase over the stock unit. However I'm assume that was on a stock car. Perhaps a car with a tune and improved intake inlet could benefit from it. I don't think rocket5979 will do an exhaust as he is cutting right to the point with his plans, and he doesn't want the Lincoln to get away from being a Lincoln.

I am sure the Gen 2 LS's could gain some power via an aftermarket exhaust, but I don't feel the gains would be enough to motivate me to spend the money to do so. I just don't feel the benefit to cost ratio is high enough to justify it for me. If others want to do it then its cool.

Well said and right on point. I like the sound of a good aggressive exhaust, but not on a luxo car. If I want to get my fill of a nasty mean sounding exhaust I will just pull my other vehicle out and start it up. ;)

Like Jason said, loud or not, the LS will be quite a bit faster here in the next few weeks.

Exactly, no one would likely pay the $600-$900 they would want for the system for a 5hp gain. There probably is hp to be had thou. Of coarse they could just lie like Magne-flow with the 2.5" 00-02 system. Its really only 2.25".
I would of probably bought it anyway, but they should correct their website like they told me they would. Lot of tools in the world, I don't like getting wrenched.

So you guys dont think an exhaust is a good idea? I just ordered a magnaflow for my LS. Is it going ot be loud and sound stupid? I dont mind a deep humm, but certainly I dont want my LS sounding like a F'ing mustang. Please tell me it's not goin got sound like that. =[

My Magna's are perfect, they have a bit of a growl but only when he's playing. Keep in mind that a new exhust only changes sound and will effect performance slightly unless you increase the pipe diameter (like above stated, Marks have 2.25 {why I do not know!}, but 2.50 would make a..."better bit" of a difference, x-overs also even greater (louder too), but still more of a better performance modification, not a "gonna get fast" fast modification.

Only my opinion, and experience, but I think you will like them...err it. ;)

Smooches Hottie!

An exhaust is always a good idea, even on the 03+ there is something to be gained. The issue that comes about is not gain, but money to gain ratios not really justifying people putting them on their Gen 2 LS's. The Gen 1 LS does benefit from the exhaust; and from hearing Jasons Magnaflows on his 02 V8 LS it is actually quite mellow and doesn't sound like a loud Mustang at all.

WOW 14.3 with a XCAL and CAI only???? That's really impressive.

TY, it has more in it as it sits. If I bothered to dynotune it then it would pick up a little more too. My plan for this car has gotten alot more serious than a mere stock-ish dynotune though. Stand by for some big updates in the next few weeks. ;)

You'll like the system. It fits well and is a very mild sound, I may pull the resonators to make it louder as a matter a fact. It is a very good mod for the 00-02 LS for performance. 03up appearently just don't get the hp increase to justify doing for most people, from what I've read it has been tested.

ANY and EVERY car will always benefit from simple breathing mods anywhere and everywhere. the HP level might not raise drastically but often time throttle response is the biggest difference felt.
Intake/Exhaust/Headers should be on top of everyone's list
They work good too once u supercharge the motors :D

Yes and no. Not all stock intakes and exhausts are created equal. While some are so restrictive that they will net tons of power once swapped out, there is also the flip side of things like with the 03+ LS exhaust. While they could benefit from a custom exhaust, it isn't worth the cost due to the stock exhaust being good enough to only see minimal power gains. Not a very good power gain to cost ratio for that one.

The headers are a gimme, if there were headers offered for these cars. I highly doubt anyone has gotten serious enough with these cars to need a custom made set of them either. ;) I will have the LS in the high 12's here soon and even then I don't plan to get a set of custom made headers.

The top of every LS owners performance list are:

Intake
Exhaust
SCT tune via Xcal or Xcal2

Wait a minute.....that the WHOLE LIST!!! hehe. Too bad there isn't much offered for these cars. I guess some of us will have to continue breaking ground for the aftermarket world for these cars.
