A little off subject but I feel we are all family so what the heck!:) Looking to buy one for the misses. 15 passenger with the 6.8 liter v10. Anyone have any personal knowledge on this vehicle? What about the v10? Looked at one today but didnt drive it. Wife started it up and it sounded quiet and smooth. I think it would a great vehicle to tow the LS with. (cheap tie in)

Dont know about the van but my firends job has him driveing around in a ford boxtruck with the 10 all day he never shuts up about how much he loves that moter and keeps trying to get another friend to put one in his F-150.

Glad to hear it. One thing you dont want in the San Fran Bay Area is something oversized and underpowered. Not with all the hills we have. Especially in San Francisco.

The V10's reputation is that it has very good power, but it drinks gas. In the pickups, most of the people I know prefer the PowerStrokes to the V10s (much better power and the mileage is at least as good), but I don't know if that would be an option in the Econolines. And given the price of diesel, I'm not sure that the PowerStroke still has an advantage (other than in the power and torque to spare departments).

Drinkin the fuel is the only bad thing I've heard. Had a friend that chose one over a diesel because the diesel pulled a huge dollar over the V-10. He figured he could get years of bad gas mileage and still be ahead of the game. Now if your gonna haul some serious weight on a regular basis, the diesel is the way to go. Rebuilt a 95 turbo with my brother, veeerrryyy different than a gas motor. Not something a normal wrencher is used too.

I have driven a 99 F350 cargo van with the Triton 5.4 V8 for a long time, the van was great, very good handling. It had a pretty good power. I have also driven a box ford van with the 5.4, it was good too, ran better compared to the 5.7 in the 98 Chevy box van. I have also driven a V10 box Ford truck for a week, but it was bigger then the 5.4 one, longer box and havier. The V10 had a really nice sound compared to the V8 ford, on the higher rpms sounded more like the 6 liter mercedes V12 from the older big body benz, if anybody has driven it before. The V10 had different gearing in the tranny compared to the V8 engined truck. It wasn't much quicker because of the higher weight.

I didn't feel very big difference in the gas mileage.

Those are some great vans, probably one of the best vehicles that Ford makes.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the input. Gas mileage is the least of my concerns believe it or not. Before my 04 v8 LS I drove a 74 Bronco with a 302 thqat got 10 to 12 mpg. Before that a 78 Bronco with a well built 460 that got around the same. Go figure. The van is going to be for the misses business (in home day care). 35 gallon gas tank. Runs to schools and parks mostly. Gas can be written off as a business expense as well as the vehicle itself. We'll still have my LS, 74 Bronco and 2001 Windstar, all paid off.
