I drove my LS yesterday with no problems. I tried to start it this morning and it would not start. It is cranking, but sounds almost like it is freewheeling. I had a similar sound in an old Ford that had a belt driven crank that broke, so just the bottom end of the engine was spinning.

Anyway, I looked at the front of the engine while it was being cranked and everything appeared normal (the serpentine belt was spinning the alternator, power steering pump, etc.).

There are 2 timing chains in this engine, right? Can they slip / break? If the timing chain broke / slipped, did I bend the valves when it was cranked?

Could I take of the driver side valve cover and see if that half is working? (the passenger side is a pain in the butt to get to...).

I searched and could not find much data on V6 crank w/o starting.

Thanks,

Dale

crank no start - fuel pump bad - quietly to key to on but not start, you should hear the pump start up, if not check fuse in trunk, if bad fuse change fuse, but bad pump will blow fuse.
crank no start - no electric, check all fuses
any codes thrown?

I didn't check for codes. It broke right before I was going to work so I didn't do a whole lot of troubleshooting. I'll look at the fuse and fuel pressure when i get home.

I'm, skeptical that it is an electrical issue because of how it sounds when turning over (although it typically starts right up so I don't really listen critically when normally starting it.)

Thanks for the help.

What sound cancels out the possibility of it being electrical?
