My 2003 LS V6 seems to have a stealth monitor. Every so often after I have shut off the motor and removed the ignition key, I hear a series of thumps, whines, clicks?, etc. like data are somehow being recorded. Whether these data are sent to Lincoln is a mysterey to me, but I suspect vehicle performance data are being recorded for a future fault isolation. Also there is an unidentified multi-terminal female connector under the hood on the driver's side right at the firewall below the hood hinge. I couldn't find any info on it from the Service Manual DVD.
Anyone know what it is? I probably should see my 'friendly Ford-Lincoln dealer' and inquire but ...

Too many conspiracy theories...
There is no PCM activity after key off. The PCM does not make any noise at all.
The air door actuators for the climate control do make noise, and they do continue to move for several minutes after key off.
The connector is for non-OBDII diagnostics, related to the fuel pump, if I recall correctly.

Agreed...the climate control will make noise after the car is turned off
