I have a 03 lincoln ls V8. I got the car with 85k on it and when i punch the gas, there is this stink that comes into the car. It only happens when you nail the accelerator tho. It smells like a slight burning and rotten egg type of smell. There arent any lights, or warnings on in the dash either. The car has no loss of power, and has a very steady acceleration while pinned. Any idea what this may be?

Rotten egg type smells are usually associated with bad catalytic converters, but I wouldn't expect that to make it into the car while moving.

A burning oil smell might be from leaking valve cover gaskets (probably into the plug wells, so you won't normally see it). Note that you are actually under extended factory warranty for leaking valve cover gaskets, if your 03 first sold in December of 2002 or later.

Of course, it could be something else.

I had the same exact problem when I first purchased mine(least of my problems) and it was my cats, didn't lose power untill my light came on trust me they are on the way out 1200 for the whole job at the dealer

if it is the cats.. purchase them yourself and take them to a local exhaust shop...should be able to get it done pretty cheap...

Yep, definitely bad cats, which also probably implies leaking Valve Cover Gaskets and misfires. As Joe said take it to the dealer and there is still an extended warranty where they'll replace the gaskets and any malfunctioning coils. Got it done to mine (03 - 87k miles) for $0.

check for fluid/oil dripping on the exhaust manifold. the pvc likes to leak with the OEM clamps. i just needed new hose clamps on my v6.
until you figure it out use the 'recirculate' button to keep your lungs intact

My dads brand new Boss 302 mustang does the same thing. Egg/fart smell when you get on it. the car has maybe 3000 miles on it, its normal for the cats to do that when you get on it hard.

Don't think so. Our '86 Sable was recalled due to the sulfur-smelling exhaust. The fix was a new cat. Your dad should have that checked.

Our cats smells to ... mostly right after they come out of the litter box.

We solved the problem with this contraption.

WOW!!!! Do you also have a fan in there to exhaust the, um, bouquet?

My LS did that when I ran gas w/ Ethanol, but only in winter. It didn't go into the cabin though..

Yup and it was cheaper then new CATS, them kitties are expensive.

My car has the same smell as well. I seen the talk about the extended warranty, does that include the cats as well? Not that long ago I took my car in under the extended warranty and they replaced all coils plugs and my vcgs for free. If not, what are some good cats for this car?

All cars sold in the US have a federally mandated cat warranty regardless of any other warranty, think it's 8 years or 120K miles. Need to verify though.

That sounds right. However, they will only warranty them if they are exceeding emission levels.

Well I would not be able to make that warranty cut of considering I have a 03. As for aftermarket cats?
