2001 Lincoln LS strange overheating issue

Hello all,

This is my first post because this website is wonderful and its really easy to find any answers , but lately my lincoln Ls(2001) has been overheating within 10-15 minutes of driving. I Turn on the heat and blast it at 90 degrees and the temperature gauge goes back down to normal ( which is about halfway for me ) . I can then turn A/C back on or turn air off completely and proceed to drive with no issues for the rest of the trip. This happened a few time about 6 months ago but now it happens just about everyday . Any ideas on what could be causing this issue .

Yes, there are bunches of reasons discussed over and over and over and over on this site.
What have you checked (like the low and high speed operation of the cooling fan)?
When was the degas bottle and any other cooling system parts changed last?
V6 or V8?
 
Its a V8 and Havent tried replacing anything yet because the problem just started last week . I was looking through the site and found a lot of overheating problems but none with my exact symptoms. Earlier today it did not overheat and even when it does over heat I just run the heat at its highest for a couple of minutes and its goes right down almost instantly . Just really looking for a starting point
 
I had a similar issue with my '05. It would operate within normal range most of the time, but on occasion it would soar into the red. I'd stop, let it cool for a few minutes, and drive away again. Finally, one night, with it nearing the red, I got the gut wrenching show of steam from my engine. I pulled over, popped the hood and checked it out. Didn't look serious, and I suspected it was nothing more than an upper radiator hose. I had it towed to the shop and checked over just to make sure. Sure enough, my upper radiator hose had burst. They replaced that, and checked everything else. I haven't had an issue since then. Just one more thing to check out.
 
If this were me, I'd go ahead and replace the degas, thermostat, thermostat housing, upper radiator hose, etc. Because if it hasn't failed already and you're having overheating issues, it will soon enough.

Also, make sure you bleed the system correctly after performing any replacements.
