Anyone changed the Lower Control Army Bushings? The sqeeking is driving me nuts. I'm told you have to change the entire arm, and you can only purchase them from the dealer. Any suggestions?

dont go to the dealer go to team ford parts. its a link on the side bar. they have great prices. As far as fixing it i cant help mine is going in the shop soon for the ball joint, which is the whole control arm.

I am also looking a replacing mine. I bought a pair off of eBay a while back. I only have one original box and the part number is: 4W4Z-3K186-BA. Is that the correct part (right or left) for a 2000 LS V8?

I am taking to the dealer today for some misfires or stuttering when accelerating and was thinking about having them put on but wanted to make sure I have the right parts.

I know thats the right part number for the left knuckle on a 2001 LS v-6, but I'm pretty sure its for all LS's up to '02 or late '01. I just bought the left and right knuckles from Max at Five Star Ford (parts@fivestarford.com). Here's what he quoted me at.
PART NUMBER DESC LIST PRICE YOUR COST
4W4Z-3K186-BA ARM $294.85 $212.29
4W4Z-3K185-BA ARM $292.15 $210.35

@gcgxplosv1
That beats Team Ford by like $5-$7 per part, and he's a great guy to work with. The dealership I went to wanted $1200 for parts, labor, and alignment. After buying the parts from Max, the dealership is only charging me $160 for installation and alignment. So don't get raped on parts by the stealership.

I paid $300.00 on eBay for the parts. Dealer said worst case scenario would be $280.00 for install plus 4 wheel alignment if needed. If the worst case is hit, then I guess I will have about $580 in it so that doesn't sound too bad.

Thanks.....

Was that $300 for just the left knuckle or both knuckles? And is the dealer charging $280 to install both sides or just one? That better be for both... Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be that much. Good luck.

The $300 was for both knuckles. The $280 is a worst case scenario for changing both control arms and a 4 wheel alignment. It might be less, but they just worst cased it for me in the estimate. I have had very good experiences with this dealer.

Just an FYI on a couple of quotes I got today for the same repairs:

Lincoln dealership quoted me ~$400 labor, ~$360 per lower control arm.
Tire Kingdom ~$175 labor, ~$550 per lower control arm.
WTF?!?!

So I'll be calling garages around here for labor rates and get the parts from Maxx.

That's an awesome deal on the parts. Wish I had seen that.

I just bought used upper and lowers for each side off an 06 from car part.com just showed up - $45/EACH and they look brand new.....

I picked up mine today and the bill was $249.95. 3 Hours at $70.00 for labor and a $39.95 alignment.

70% of the knocking sound is gone but I still have a little. I guess I will have to investigate what is causing the rest of the popping sound, however, the front end does feel much tighter.

That's good to hear. I should be receiving my parts from Max next week. The front end seems to sound worse and worse as I drive it. I checked the ball joints myself last night while I was rotating the tires, and its really bad. I must have at least 1.5"-2" of play in the left ball joint. :(

I was just at a garage today and the owner showed me in a parts catalog that he could get the LS bushings for $12, couldn't those just be replaced without changing the control arms?

I've read that FoMoCo changed the control arms to include the bushings, but on the older models, the bushings can be changed out. They just wear out, but wouldn't the attached bushings on the control arm wear out, too?
How many bushings would an LS need? Two for each wheel - 1 for the upper and 1 for the lower control arm?

I'm not against buying a control arm, but why replace something that isn't broken? I just need the rubber pieces changed out.

Can a vendor chime in that has some bushings in stock?
And a tech person to answer if replacing the bushings is possible and worth the effort?

each control arm has two busings. So 4 per "wheel"

This weekend I replaced the entire front suspension on mine, uppers lowers, knuckles, hubs, and sway bars. Tight as a drum now:)

I just picked my car up after getting both front lower control arms replaced and they only charged me $139 even after an alignment. Its a little bit of a drive but I love going to a dealership who doesn't try to rape you every chance they get.

The bushings have worn out on my 2000 V8 Lincoln LS (116K miles), I've been told that I need to replace the control arms. I have read that on the newer LS's the control arms have the bushings attached, but on the older LS's the bushings can be replaced.

Can someone comment if its worth it to just get the bushings or if I actually need the control arms?

i swapped mine out a few weeks ago.. best price ur going to find is here online.. if u do a search i actually asked about this earlier.. u can find the part number and prices online.. labor is about 2 1/2 hours..

I did both upper arms and both wheel knuckles last weekend. From what I saw the lower arm would not be any harder. The only thing that caught me by surprise was the disc brake shield was riveted to the old wheel knuckle. I had to drill out the rivets and then bolt the shield to the new knuckle.

BTW what are the control arms made of? they look like aluminum to me. I'm going to take them to the scrap yard and see what I can get for them.

it's all aluminum, knuckles and control arms. I did fronts uppers and lowers and entire new rearend. Thinking i've got close to $100 in aluminum scrap...
