so i posted a thread already about a few problems, and read a few others that kinda seem like what I'm getting also, joe on here told me to take to ford, well i set up an appointment but they can't get me in for 2 weeks, which i think is complete BS,
anyways, like i was saying family friend owns 3 tire mans in toledo. had them look at it ( car is shutting off after going 60+ and letting off gas and letting car get down to about 40-50 the rpms go crazy up and down between 1k-2k then will hesitate and jump forward a bit when i give gas, then dies in a few seconds, they told me my coil was spiking causing my PCM to turn off? i decided to buy all new coils ( visteon ) and have them replace, sure enough didn't fix a damn thing...
they replaced cam sensors, and still shuts off...

then i was driving last night in D4 and the rpms jump around when I'm doing 40 and let off, but if in D5 i have to be doing 60 then let off, it will shut off the same way in D4 when i let off gas and get down to 20 25 and hit gas.

ALSO when i was changing from d4 to d5, i got a E where my selector is, but it went away after about 3 seconds, and no check engine light and car did not die when that happened. I'm lost reading threads that seem like my problem, and tire man is retarded, ford is booked 2 weeks! =[

don't know what to do guys, save me please.

sorry for the long thread, just don't know anything here. and i love my LS and don't want to smash into a pole for insurance money but I'm leaning that way.

My car acted completely crazy dieing and stuff like that and my cats where plugged.

May not be your problem.

Also check your vacuum lines. To do so get some starter fluid and spray the lines one ata time, if the idle changes when you spray a line you have a cracked vacuum line.

Also put a fuel pressure gauge on it just to check that,

let us know if that helps any

Cats were suggested before, and takes all of about 5 minutes to check - did you look further into this?

see i wouldn't even know where to spray and what they look like ha, sounds stupid that i know nothing about cars, and my car idles fine when in park and i can drive it fine as long as i don't let off gas and let it coast down, if i let off gas and break it down to 40 its fine.

but best i can do is have my buddy look at it again. and tell him this stuff

thanks for the quick replies. could it be a bad PCM? or ECM?

I would certainly be asking for at least a refund on their labor charge. Regardless if they discounted it any.

how do i check my cats? just by taking the O2 sensors off like joe said, i can have my uncle do that this weekend with me and drive it to see if it dies after letting off gas.

This may sound retarded - but could this be converter related?

Seems his problem happens right at TC lockup in both D4 and D5 (40-45mph and 55-60mph)

Just throwing the idea out there.

yeah i did he's like, well man since I'm helping you out and you brought in your own parts theres nothing i can do about that, but they said they will stick with it til the problem is fixed, but the main lincoln mechanic won't be back until monday.

I suppose that it is possible. The PCM counts on the transmission keeping the engine turning when cruising with the gas pedal released. (The PCM cuts all fuel to the engine in this situation.)

find a different dealer

just hanging on for the ride (to see what it could be)

find a different dealer

theres only two ford dealers around me (30 miles.)

one is 2 weeks, other is 2 weeks and 3 days lol, thats just my luck though, going to try a few of the suggestions on monday though, then will update with whats going on.

thanks everyone.

Any Lincoln or Jaguar dealers around you?

After Mike Bass Ford :q:q:q:qed my engine install, I refuse to go back to a Ford dealer.

funny... mine was doing that up and down thing a while back... and just stopped all the sudden I had a recent repair im wondering if they had fixed something in it, and also had it random die on me as i was going down the road, turned it back on made it 20 ft and died again lol, took it in and they told me its because I was useing my spare key LOL! >.< faaaaaaaace------> PALM

PATS won't shut down a running engine after the first second or so. You'd think that they would know that.

Finally got the LS to the lincoln dealer, hopefully they will let me know what's going on with it

IAC valve bad

I'm thinking the IAC valve on throttle body has gone bad or is going bad. My 01V6 acted like that. But you have an old car, on my V6 I've replaced Alternator, fuel pump, IAC valve, PVC valve, hoses, etc, etc, etc. Runs great. Anyone one of these or a combination can make the car run BAD!

Well I have changed so far, alt, batt, coils ( visteon ) plugs, fuel filter, cam sensor,

I will update on what Lincoln tells me, thanks for the info on the IAC

Damn that is a lot of money chasing after what may something very simple.

Just like i figured, Lincoln sucks my a**, paid my 100$ to diagnose, now they want 500 more to go more in depth tO figure it out, there saying its either my tranny or some sensor in the tranny so I'm dumping it obviously no one can figure out my problem

Sounds like you got a diagnosis to me. It's a transmission problem, specifically, it would have to do with the lock-up torque converter or its control. You could have saved all the money that you've wasted on the things that it wasn't.
You can continue the diagnostics to get the the exact transmission fault, you can replace the transmission (including torque converter), or you can start throwing parts at the transmission now.

replace the torque converter and it's control solenoid.

Edit: Guess Joe said the same thing...

I really didn't spend money on those parts battery was 13 bucks and coils were 135 that's all I was Into it everything was free, but the way they explained my diagnosis it was different, how much would them repairs cost

Depends - transmission work can get expensive with labor.

If you can do the labor yourself, it's not terrible.

But you will need jackstands and a floor jack high enough to lift the car a good 20-24" off the ground.

I will be replacing my TC over the summer, and I think I found my V6 converter for ~250 online
