Hi all, I have a 2000 Lincoln LS with about 41,000 miles on it. A week ago the driver side window fell down into the door and would not roll back up. I took the car to a local Lincoln dealer and they said (without even looking at the car) that a part was bad and quoted me $369 for the new part. I figured they were full of crap so I just took the car home and removed the door panel myself. I noticed that the window had become removed from the little "bracket" that holds the rear of the window so I just replaced it on the bracket and tightened the bolt that holds the window in the bracket. The window was working fine until last night when it fell back down into the door. I removed the panel again and it had come out of the bracket again however this time the bracket also came off the cable that moves it up and down and the cable didn't appear to be on the pulley system. I'm not sure how to fix this without taking the door apart. I guess I'll have to take the car to a dealership but I'm wondering how much it'll cost. I think the motor is good...I can hear it turn on however the cable system doesn't appear to be moving anymore.

Has anyone had this happen before or know how to fix it? Also how much can I expect a dealership to charge to fix this? Thanks for any help.

Mike

I also am currently having the same problem with my river passanger window. It doesn't stay up anymore. I think the motor may be dead. Any information would be very helpful. Thanks.

i had the same thing happen to me its not the motor its the regulator. it will cost u about what the dealer said. but what i did was by the regulator and took it to a place that works on windows and saved about 150 dollars. i think the regulator is about 120 dollars

It's the regulator. If you're a good enough mechanic to take the door panel off, you can easily replace the regulator. The part cost me $130.

Do I need to remove anything else on the door in order to replace the regulator? I'm going to call the dealership tomorrow and order the part or maybe they'll have it in stock. I'll try to install it myself but if it involves removing a lot of parts in the door I may take it to a specialist.

There is a big metal plate immediately behind the splash shield (plastic thing) to which the regulator is attached. It's about 1.5x1.5 feet, and takes just a few bolts to remove. You'll take that out of the car and work on a bench. THe regulator is attached to that, making removal easy.

There are a few other things you have to remove, too, such as the door latch mechanism, lots of wires (you'll likely break some clips), and the "anti-theft shield" (a piece of plastic designed to foil the coat-hanger door unlocking trick). It's not a tough job. I did mine, and created rattles by breaking some of the clips holding the wire bundles.

If money's tight, you can definately do it yourself. If it's not, just pay someone...
