2000 Lincoln Ls 3.0l to 03 3.0l swap?

My buddy has a 2000 Lincoln ls with a blown 3.0l. I searched and vaguely found that the 03and up vvt v6 can be swapped in and work ok minus vvt functionality if the old cam sensor is used. Just confirming if this is correct or any other valuable can be supplied. Main reason for wanting to use the vvt engine is they are more plentiful in the area, cheaper, and alot less mileage.Thanka for the input!

here is the thread. My understanding is 2000 to 2002 is the same engine and then 03-06 is a different generation where the engine adds vvt. looks like if you swap the cam sensor from the old engine to the 03+ engine then everything works minus vvt.

well I guess it does work, the biggest problem is that the person that said it worked hasn't been on since days after he said he got it working...

Im not saying that it wont work, I just dont know how comfortable I feel going off of a guy with only 4 days on here who hasn't been on in a year.
