Is this normal or does the car calculate this based on the AVG computed MPG's? I'm just wondering because I have to make a road trip from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg this weekend and was under the impression that I could get there off of 1 tank of gas. I have an 05 LS sport V8....

Mine fluctuates on how I'm driving. the AVG doesn't seem to affect me much cause it's baised on my rescent average but when I drive on a non-radical level then I can get up to 362mpg on 16gallons

Holy crap. 362mpg x 16 gallons= 5792 miles on 1 tank.

I want some of what you're smoking. Come to think of it, I want some of what you're filling your tank with.

hey repete, i think you mean 362 miles to empty, and why does your tank only hold 16 gallons

as long as i'm not driving like a complete jack a$$, i usually get around 420 miles+ out of my 18 gallons when i drive back and forth from Michigan to Alabama

hey lostsoul77, what does your average say? if you drive it like you stole it, then it will give its best guess based on how you drive, some times when i go on a trip the first time i fill it up(after my usual jacka$$ driving), it will say 310-330 miles to empty, but as i drive on the highway it will adjust its self and the next time i fill it up it will say 400+ miles to empty

I just filled up a couple hours ago. I'm averaging 17.3mpg almost all city, and the display set to "320 miles to empty."

If it uses the same caculation as the mark 8 then it averages the last 550-600 miles of driving.
If you disconnect your battery it should begin the relearning process again.

These cars suck on gas no matter what the thing says.

With that said, I went from NYC to VA Beach two weekends ago on one tank with a little left to spare. You will be fine going from PGH to Harrisburg.

Hey 1LoudLS,

I believe it said 11.5 AVG MPG.....I know....I'm heavy on the gas LOL! I always end up racing someone everyday. The majority of my driving is city driving so I would expect the AVG to be pretty low. I was wondering if it would adjust itself during highway driving or not. When I saw it display 200 Miles to Empty after filling up and hitting the reset button, I thought I had something else going wrong with the LS.....LOL!

How do you get a Gold membership on this forum BTW?

Hey NYC LS8, are you from Va Beach? I'm stationed at Langley AFB in Hampton. The next time you this way, let me know.

haha well there you go. The computer is just guessing that since you drive 11+ miles per gallon that your estimated miles to empty will somewhat be around 200.

11+mpg(which is horrible! your wasting your gas money!) x 18 gallon tank = 198 miles left til empty.

im sure if you set your accelerator on the speed limit and leave the rest to cruise control, you can get 300+ off a full tank.

You have a comfortable car man; just put on some good music, relax, and enjoy the ride. no need to speed and pass up other cars!

Nah man. Just down there for an extended weekend away from this rat race. I used to be down there twice a month with friends who had friends down there, but that's been like 10 years since that's happened. Let ya know if I head down that way again. :Beer

he petesmodded it to a 16 gallon tank and with the other petesmods, the engine puts out 400 hp and does in fact get 362 mpgs.

i thought it was one of those hyrogen recycling systems with the water tank

The 16 gallon tank saves so much weight that he is able to get the additional mpgs. Oh, and don't forget the autosocks. They keep the tires cool and are really good at absorbing sweat. That also helps.

Ha ha ha, I haven't heard "autosocks" in... Well too damn long! Roflol'ing

I don't drive my car to empty. 362 is my miles when I reset the trip meter every time I fuel up since it gives a better gas estimate than the mpg meter.
