1st Gen V6 Oil Pan Gasket - What Am I Up Against Here?

It is looking more and more like I need to change the oil pan gasket in my '00 V6 LS. 5 speed by the way. I would like to glean any wisdom from those that have done it before. I looked for posts on it, but did not find anything here. I do have access to a lift. If I look at this correctly it will need to have the front subframe dropped to get this done. My parents had an leaking pan gasket in their 2000 V6 LS and they sold the car rather than get it replaced. So I know it is not a quick fix. Has anyone done this and what constructive advice could you give me?

Hi Craig, This may be of no help, but with my '56 I re-torqued the bolts. It didn't stop the leak, but it slowed it down to a tolerable amount ( about a drip a day) until the engine was rebuilt. My Lincoln is the same as yours, and also leaks. I'm hoping that it is a valve cover issue. I will address it next year, we're fast running out of car work weather here and I'm up to my armpits in Escorts. Make sure you use the right torque value and follow the sequence if there is one. You'll probably find a bunch of loose screws.

removing/replacing 3.0 oil pan

Looks very involved. It looks like you would have to support the engine from above because you'll be removing the motor mount bolts and you can't support it from the oil pan because you're trying to remove it. They say to just pry on the subframe a little with the bolts loose to get enough clearance to remove the pan, so no need to drop the whole subframe.

Not simple, but doable. It'll just take longer than you'd want it to.

The problem on mine is at the top of the intermediate oil pan, which an oil pan gasket will not stop. From my understanding, the oil pan coming off leads to accessing the intermediate pan, but that intermediate piece is supposedly the main bearing carrier also? I'll take a look at the link above, but this is why I did not attempt it.

My 01V6 does the same, leaks at oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets. done the valve cover gaskets twice. oil pan i just tighten the bolts and leave it alone. too expensive to fix, car too old, oil too cheap to buy and add. try some stop leak and save yourself some trouble.
