Hey everybody!

This is my first post/thread here, I just picked up a 2000 ls v8 and had a couple of questions about it.

The first is in regards to the headlights. On the first gens, the low beams turn off when the high beams are clicked on. On the later models, the high beams stay on. Is there an easy way to bypass this?

On my old truck they refered to it as the "bambi mod".

Thanks all. I'm looking forward to learning more and more about this great car!

Welcome to LVC..

IMO, the brights are bright enough on the 1st gen.. I'm sure you could bypass it but that all depends on your wiring skills..

Hid's in the lows is a pretty good reason. OP, search for threads started by skizot722 or something like that. Should have the info you need.

I live in a fairly rural area. Most of the time, when I drive at night, I'll see one or two other vehicles. There is a lot of deer. I'd like to see them a little bit before they try to commit suicide. :)

Also, I'm obsessed with getting the most quality light out of my vehicles as possible (read: no HIDs). More light = more safety.

An HID kit will give you a huge advantage.

No, it really won't. The light will scatter incorrectly.

To get the most usable light, retrofit in a pair of Morimoto Mini H1 projectors.

Otherwise, I would get some GE Nighthawk Platinum (easy to get) or Philips X-treme Power (might have to buy online) bulbs, and aim your lights correctly.

Just check this thread:

His pics have been offline for a while :( The LS430s are the biggest projectors out there, and thus hardest to retrofit (they also come with a small reflector to give additional width to the beam).

Damn. I never read through it this time, just found the thread and linked it.

Yeah that bummed me out too. I was looking at it the other day and no pics. Those were amazing picture, I hope someone saved a few of those.

if my memory is correct, 1st gen headlight are negative trigger (which means that there is 12v at the headlight all the time and the control module switches the ground on and off to control the light), so all you need to do is to add a relay triggered off of the highbeams to give a ground to each lowbeam.

basically your relay would look like this,
85 gets 12v+
86 get tapped into the negative trigger wire for the highbeam
87a no connection
87 goes to ground
30 taps in to the negative trigger wire for the low beam.

that way when the high beams are turned on, it will energize the relay which will give the lowbeam a new ground that will keep it turned on.

you will have to make sure that i am remembering this correctly and test to make sure that the negative wire for each bulb is the wire that gets turned on and off

thank you for that!

lol, I drive my truck, not the LS once I cross the big blue! couple of off road lights and the aforementioned bambi mod. :)
