Hi guys.
Yesterday we loaded some stuff in the trunk.
Actually I didn't load it, a couple friends loaded it.
When I got there the trunk wouldn't close flush
(with the automatic closer),
and it was clicking with what sounded like the airbag pump but was probably the auto-closer.
The clicking stopped when I opened the drivers door.

After readjusting the goods,
the auto-trunk-closer wouldn't activate.

I took a look and its hard to see what actually closes the trunk.
There's nothing really obvious that moves,
so now not sure if its in the latch area or the hinge area.

I've looked in the chilton's manual and there's nothing covering it,
and online haven't found anything either.

I don't mind tearing it up but was hoping some of you have any ideas.

Also don't know if it could be a simple fuse, there's nothing in the fusepanel covering that,
so it could be a fusible link?

thanks guys!

travis

what the latch(on the trunk lid) latches on to (in the trunk) to close it goes up and down, pulling the trunk up and down with it. did your friends slam the trunk? cause slamming it breaks the mechanism, you have to be ginger with it. you might have to replace the whole assembly. From what I understand this is a common problem. this is what i found online, just to give you an idea of what it looks like.

On mine I took the whole thing apart and turned the armature of the motor until it was in full pull-down position. Put it back together and check to make sure the trunk closes. Adjust it until it closes without too much effort and there you go. Since the motor is still in there it will hold the latch in the 'down' position. This way you don't have to replace the unit and your trunk will close flush. The only person who will know its broke is you.
