I finally got around to taking my newer 98 LSC Mark VIII down the track yesterday for the first time. I got 2-runs in and her best was 14.883@94.95MPH. This was at englishtown. My only mod is a cat-back exhaust. As usual I was the only Mark VIII there. I raced an Acura TL Type-S both times and beat it both times.

I ran with regular gas (non-premium), and 3/4 tank of gas. (I wasn't really planning to race yesterday). The weather was in the high 70's.

I'm thinking with Premium gas, 1/4-tank of gas and colder weather she'll get to 14.5............at least high 14.5's?

I did have fun bringing this car to the track. It is amazing how many people at the track don't know what a Mark VIII is or what it has under the hood? I got asked if it was rear wheel drive another asked if it has a 5.7 chevy motor..........i think he thought it was a caddy? When I bring my Vette to the track people know more about my car than me?!

Full Time Slip..........

R/T - .275
60' - 2.200
330 - 6.317
1/8 - 9.659
MPH - 73.79
1000 - 12.502
1/4 - 14.883
MPH - 94.95

PM me the next time you go to E-Town. My friend Vinnie was there last night with his all white Fox body Stang, but I got stuck at work in Manhattan.

I thought you would do better then that.

What do Gen II LCS's (stock, or mildly modded) generally run? I thought they ran high 14's even low 15's?

I'm pretty sure I'd run faster with colder weather and premium gas? Not to mention it's still got the original plugs and probably original fuel filter. Car has 60k miles and is 10-years old.

All I know is Gen I will out-run a Gen II. But I thought most fall into the 14 to 15 range. But thats with a clean bill of health and all. O2s, fuel filter, etc.

I think even a few, very few, swapped on a Gen I intake manifold?

But given the age, new plugs may be a good idea. The O2s will be due and you should ALWAYS run premium gas. There is a strong change that you were detonating and the car was retarding the timing a bit via knock sensors. The compression ratio of the Mark calls for 91 octane or higher.

When I race again, I'll try and switch over to premium. The car runs fine all around on regular. I ran approx 150,000 of the 250,000 miles on my 1993 Mark VIII with regular and that car still ran great.......so it won't damage the car. So far I've only put 6k miles on the 98 and that has been with all regular gas. But you're right, the car should be running just a little off with regular vs. premium..........at least for 1/4 mile racing.

Like I said, I think new plugs, new fuel filter, premium gas, 1/4 tank of gas and colder weather should put her in the 14.5's. I might even pull the air silencer out and cut out the front of the air intake box.......(Old Mark VIII message board mods that make you think the car is faster). Even with those fixes it won't run what my 1993 did.

Ken I was just messing with you. Good run Danny

Awesome Ken!! Who has the fastest recorded Gen II run in stock form?
That's some good numbers there for just our cat back only!! LOVE IT!

Good job Ken!

that is a great ET for a basicly stock second gen.
hats off to you sir.

I'm getting ready to baseline my stock 98 LSC and I would be completely happy if the danged thing clicked off a 14.99.

but I'm pretty sure based on the "butt-0-meter" that it's gonna be a 15.2-15.3 car, just like my first gen was when it was stock.

Will be interesting to "flash the car back to stock" and see how it runs then put the "tommy tune" back on the car and compare.

looking at the stock file the torque reduction is knocking out about 20% torque at ALL TIMES..
between that and 20 some odd degrees if "tip in retard" the stock PCM calibration appears to have left ALOT on the table.

Keep us posted Ken!!
check your PM's too.

Ken does!

hell those cars have historically "been turds", even with the better gearing the supposed 10 extra HP.

I'd be happy as hell if my second gen clicked ANYTHING in the 14 second range.. but "it aint gonna", it's a TURD.
LMAO

NICE KEN!!!! Perfected and powered by LMS BABY!!! LMAO!:D :D :p

Last Year after I Had the LMS Exhaust on my Mark VIII with no other Mods, pump Gas.. and almost a full Tank of Premium and 140K on motor, I Ran a 15.34 @ 92.86 nothing crazy.. but I beat a Audi turbo, I'll prob Run it in the fall after I put the Shift kit, intake, chip and Underdrive pulley in and see what it does after that.. the motor prob should be redone and supercharge it to get some good numbers..

What would I need to do with the Fuel Pressure? if it was low would that slow the car down? I didn't know that would do anything, what would I need to do upgrade the pump and injectors?

Yes, if the pump is weak it might not be able to keep up with a WOT run. Injectors should be fine if they're kept clean.

You have to have a gauge hooked up strung under the hood and taped to the windshield so a passenger can read it safely and clearly. It should never dip under 40 psi through wot up shifts.

Your MPH is low, probably due to gas.

Did you run it 100% stock before ?

The MPH is right on the money. 94 to 96. Doesn't matter 1st Gen or 2nd Gen. LSC or non-LSC.

In fact, the ET is pretty good for a 2nd Gen.

I say the car is running up to par unless you have mods.
