Well I am slowly dragging my mountain of parts out piece by piece to put on the mark...

The first installment was the 20" BOSS rims which I bought to specifically fit the 13" cobra brakes I was installing...

Well I got the kit from Disc Brakes are Us... GREAT to deal with and the parts look spectacular...

The installation was a SNAP... got the fronts on in under an HOUR! :)

Well thats where the fun stops... I bolt up the wheel and it RUBS!!!! Expletive deleted...

Just a smidgen...

So I go to put the stock stuff back on and the passenger caliper is shot... leaking like a sieve

Gotta go source a 5mm spacer now for this damn thing... GRRRR

Will post pics later

I guess the reason I am soooo pissed is that they looked so DAMN good behind the 20's ! AAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!

Should have everything together for tomorrow... :)

Hmm..

While I don't think Disk Brakes are us has a good product, (they powdercoated the ENTIRE rotor surface on all 4 rotors and sent me Mark VIII bolt pattern rear rotors instead of the ordered mustang bolt pattern), I never had rubbing issues with the brakes on 18" wheels. Where is the wheel rubbing?

Even 13" rotors behind a 20" wheel will look a little... small, IMHO. I know, they will perform better than the stock rotor size (for the life of me, I can't remember the stock size - and don't really care), but still. Big wheel, small looking rotors.

Now, 15.9" rotors behind a 19" wheel, for example... That looks good. I saw a set-up like that once... in a pamphlet... on a jet plane... I was leaving on...

Ok. I'm tired and not making sense.

On a side note... Disk Brakes are us advertises the rotors are made in America... Slightly true. They are made in Canadia. America Lite, as it were.

Same kinda :q:q:q:q happened to me last night. After successfully completeing the mustang hub swap and brake relocate in the back, I ordered the 99 svt calipers and rotors for the front. Started to put them on, the idiots sent me the wrong banjo bolts and they are about 1/4 to short. It boogered up the first two or three threads in the passenger caliper. Now my car is stuck on the rack cause when I went to put the stock caliper back it started leave like a sieve. What a :q:q:q:qing PITA:mad:

BOOM done for me, cobra's are on. Had to go to Mustangpartsspecialties to get the cobra lines to get the banjo bolts since there didn't seem to be any this side of the mississippi. Had a small leak on the passenger side, but I think I got that fixed. One odd thing I noticed though, the left front is a black caliper with cobra on it, the right front in a grey caliper with cobra on it? Was it designed that way or just an odd reman?

By the way, those cobra front calipers from carquest, 89.99 with bracket and pads. Stock cobra rotors were $38 each. Cheap as hell when you just use local parts instead of these online ripoff artists

I would have been interested to see the price difference between unloaded calipers & loaded.

When I was selling parts, usually the math worked out something like this:

Unloaded caliper $40 (reman with core swap)
Premium brake pads $50
Total of $130 for the job

Loaded caliper $90 (remand with core swap)
Total of $180 for the job, and they usually came loaded with cheapie brake pads

Even after writing all this out for the customer, I still had people insist on getting the loaded calipers :) All the better, I was happy to get a higher sale. I can only try to save them money so many times, lol.

Simple.....first, you can't return a core thats a different caliper. Second, the unloaded doesn't come with bracket. Third, I don't use $50 pads, mine are the $75 ones.....I value my ability to stop, cause I drive it like I stole it. Consider ebay, $298 for calipers, brackets and pads. Only difference is they are red. And then look at the idiots who buy the "big brake kit" from the box vendors and pay $700 or more. It was an easy decision for me:cool:

I had issues to with the 20" Drivs I wanted to put on my car rubbing the caliper bracket. I've never liked the idea of spacers so went with a different set of rims.
Where is yours rubbing at? I clearanced the brackets on mine, bit it still wasn't quite enough but they were plently strong still. The brackets don't move so it should be fine to take a little bit off if you need to...

Eh, that wasn't meant as cricism at you, bro. No need to go defending yourself :)

... but what kind of pads came with the loaded calipers?

Okay... got it all together with a 5 mm spacer (smallest I could find local)

Everything fits but I why o why do they powdercoat the rotors????
Dumbest thing ever
Here is a few pics!

BTW the thing stops likes nobody's business now!

Ceramic something or other, n..... something. I can't recall. After all iwent through, all I know is that to much brake force equals head in steering wheel.

hey stack, where did you get your big brake kit? ive been kicking around on ebay but havent found anything thats not 800+ dollars. im in the midst of changing my brake set up and i figured instead of using stock size rotors again i'd do it right.

EDIT: also, what do you do when the pads wear out on a big brake set up like that? would i have a hard time finding just the pads down the road? i dont really want to get into anything thats going to bite me in the @ss down the road

This is an Iphone post so brief. I personally think the upgrade to the mustang lug pattern is one of the greatest changes we can make. Then, big brake kits are simple bolt ons. Alltogether, with everthing for the swap, wheels hubs bearings etc (and used tires) I spent just over a grand. I have the 13" front svt brakes and the cobra rears with brackets

do they not make simple bolt on big brake kits for our 5x108? man it was a pain trying to find used rims in this lug pattern when i dented one of my ten spokes

Sure they do, for a price.

The biggest advantage of a hub swap is to take advantage of all the aftermarket competition which means lower prices and bigger selection.

yeah i can understand that much, a hub swap just seems like a little more then im tring to get in to. will these big brake kits still fit the the ten spokes? one is dented and off balance but only had a problem going 50+MPH so i was planning on using them for winter wheels.

HAHAHAH... just leave the calipers off... Perfect. I didn't need those anyways...

Any other MN12 or ford chassis with our bolt pattern have 17's stock?

F it... I will just park it for the winter then...

I'll keep looking for some 17's for winter wheels but I guess I will be looking for a while LOL!

BTW now that I have driven these for a few miles (200ish) Everything is working GREAT. It feels like I could do a freaking endo with my car! Its pretty amazing!

So next question is how do I fix the nose dive???
