06 Ls to the dealer tomorrow

Im taking my Ls to the lincoln dealership tomorrow morning. I'm getting the base service for 350.00 that includes new belt, fuel filter, cabin air filter, seat filter, oil change, alignment and balance, tire rotation, thorough inspection, and computer diagnostic. They told me that if the tech suggest anything else be done, they would give me a call. I figured this would be a good start but is there anything else anybody suggest I should get out of the way while I'm doing this service? Or any advice on dealerships lol I'm nervous as hell to take it there but I want everything done right and that's what matters most to me. Thanks!
 
69k miles on the car and I'm starting with the "base" 60k mile service at the dealership. Its from my understanding that the 60k mile service is an important one to do and it hasn't been done yet so I figured its time while I have the extra money

Replace most of the cooling system plastic parts, and put fresh coolant in.
Transmission fluid exchange.

Wow, I though you'd have many more miles on it for those items.
The belt is supposed to be inspected at 100K miles and replaced at 150K miles (unless if failed the 100K mile inspection). From what I've seen, the belts really do last that long.
 
Seems like a good price for what they are going to do. The belt does not need to be changed yet, but it won't hurt.

Ok thanks for the help... I didn't know the belts lasted that long but I do currently have what seems to sound like a belt noise on a cold start, after the car warms up it stops. Could this be something else? Now as far as replacing all the plastic cooling system parts should I just tell the tech at the dealership to do this or what? And with the coolant and tranny fluid should i do the flush or just change the fluid?

Yup. Mine was the tensioner.
 
....Well on the issue of plastic cooling system parts... It seems that age makes the plastic parts prone to failure. The LS needs a 1 time replacement on thermostat housing/cooling tower, degas bottle, hoses containing plastic molded parts, etc. You are getting close to that time of needing some cooling system work. I am not so sure that the dealership is the best place to get this done.
 
Oh wow... damn near the whole cooling system? That is crazy! It's hard for me to trust anyone to work on my car other than the dealer... idk how I'm going to get that done?

DIY is less than $500. At a dealer, it will be over $1000. I don't know that anywhere else would be any cheaper, and you are wise to have trust issues. There just aren't enough LSes around for most other shops to really know what they are doing when working on them.

You can wait for it to start to fail, it may give you enough warning before full failure, or one of the plastic parts may suddenly explode. Either way, if you are keeping the car much longer, you will be going through this.

Since you are having belt noise, you should go ahead and replace the belt tensioner too. Please note that a small coolant leak from the coolant outlet pipe can get on the belt and cause startup belt noise too.
 
Okay so after goin to the dealer I'm very pleased to know that there is nuthing wrong with my car, no codes or any negative feedback, the technician took it for a road test when he was done and said it was in good shape! He said the belt noise was the tensioner pulley so I went ahead and changed that along with the belt and idler pulley as well. I figured it wouldn't hurt, and I might as well while I'm paying for the labor. I have to say the advisor and tech were great! They were completely honest, showed me different things and gave me some good advice. The tech told me that they have some sort of decarb sevice where they cutoff the fuel and clean the fuel injectors and something about the throttle body? Idk exactly what it is but he told me that I would be able to feel a difference and it cost $269.. I'm really tempted to go back and have that done? Anyone know what this is or have had it done before? Again thanks for everyone's help! I'm happy to be apart of this LS family lol
 
You can add a can of Seafoam @ each fuel fill up for the next 3 tanks cheaper than the dealer fuel system cleaning! Pepboys has it on sale alot.

Make absolutely certain what it is they are doing. If they are hooking a machine up that will pump cleaner through then it's worthwhile, but if they are just spraying crap down the throttle body then pouring cleaner in the tank it isn't. I've had a car done both ways, and the way that involves the machine did present a very noticable improvement. Ask to see the machine they plan to use before agreeing to the procedure, then watch to see that it's actually used on your car.

so many people are taken by snakes oil fixes behind closed doors these days.
 
I had that same problem with my 05 LS at 70K - All of the plastic parts in the cooling system failed within a month's time. The upper radiator hose exploded. Then after I finished replacing all the plastic items in the cooling system, the DCCV went out. I was tolsd that the transmission fluid is supposed to be changed every 30K miles.

You were told wrong if it was implied as Ford's recommendation/requirement.
The Ford service schedule calls for the fluid to be changed every 150K miles. That seems excessive, so I do it about twice as often.
 
Wow failed cooling system at 70k unreal! I love this car to death but damn she's a pain to maintain. I took it to get the decarb service done and yes i definitely think it was worth it. however, i'm kinda concerned though because now whenever I'm slowing down right before I come to a stop the rpms rev up a little and the car kinda accelerates forward? It doesn't seem to be a big deal but I don't like it and idk why it's happening now? Has anyone had this problem before?

Failure of the cooling system plastic parts is much more related to time and the number of heat up and cool down cycles than it is to mileage.

AFAIK, they all do the slight acceleration while slowing down. It's when the transmission down shifts as you are slowing down.
 
Okay so if its the converter unlocking whats that mean? It's always reved up a little bit but it jus seemed to do it slightly more since I had that decarb service done?... idk if this is just me being paranoid or if this may be an issue? It only revs up to about the 1 rpms maybe very slightly above the 1. Does that sound normal?
 
i just bought a 06 with 36k and now it has 39k and the dccv failed and one of the seat heater is not working but luckily I have warranty until 86k. with your low miles you may just want to invest in a warranty the premium one for 36k and 3 years is less than $2000. you just spent almost 300 for repairs that would of been covered under warranty if you had it and since cooling parts on almost around the corner and don't forget the coils as well it could get very expensive if you go to the dealer to fix this individually . I got a ford warranty and im going in for service next week. you may want to check that out since you only have 69k and you can finance that for $100 a month. I normally would not recommend it but I was covered on my 04 until 100k miles and during that time I had to replace 4 coils, degas bottle, belt tensioner and pulley, upper radiator hose, dccv (twice), rack and pinion, ball joints, transmission solenoid pack, differential and thermostat housing. all but the differential are common issues with the LS and they will fail no matter what year you have so you might want to take a look if you keeping it for a long time. the downfall is that you are basically stuck with the dealer for regular maintenance but your doing that anyways.

There's nothing the matter, it's just running better now.

Warranty might have covered the cost of the belt tensioner, but it wouldn't cover the rest as that was routine maintenance.
