Well... Wasn't what I was expecting...

I think by early next year I should have the turbo from ILLS. That's my plan anyway.

Disappointing it wasn't more, thats for sure.

But hey, the dyno was cool, right?

Looks like yours was better than this bone stock V8 2003 LS. We dyno'd it at a local event we had for an LLSOC meet.

Looks about right...he pulled his LS in 4th gear as well and took it to about 6,200 RPM's. Very disappointing to me considering the car is rated at 280HP from the factory.

The factory rating is probably 280HP at the flywheel, not at the rear wheels.

That's like 25% loss through the drivetrain. Seem like a lot, but I don't really know.

Hey jgfish did you get your dyno run here in town?

These 5R55 trannies do not have much parasitic loss. My educated opinion is that Ford over-rated the Gen2's from the factory which is why people see lower than expected dyno numbers from them.

That does seem a little low, considering your intake, exhaust and x-cal mods. But every dyno is different, depending on how it is set up, calibrated and maintained. Some read higher than others and some read lower.

This was my '03 V8 a few years ago at another LLSOC event.

Hey, Lets have another West Coast Dyno Day!!!!

I was under the impression that with an intake, and XcalII, we should see something closer to 250rwhp...My K&N docs showed 232rwhp, without the tune...Hmmmmm

Well, it all depends on the dyno. Not all dyno's are alike so some information may be skewed a bit. Also, weather conditions will play a role in the performance as well.

Also, the 280 HP is at the crank and not at the rear wheels.

well, that chart explains why my car really seems to accelerate hard once it gets above 3500 RPM. That's peak power!

Was this a tuning trip to the dyno or just an informational trip?

That's how all cars are rated from the manufacturer, I thought this was common knowledge.

The drivetrain loss should be about 15%. Therefore, on a Dynojet a stock Gen 2 LS should show around 238 rwhp to equal 280 hp at the crank.

Yeah. I thought for sure there would be more power with the intake, exhaust, and the tune. This was the first time I've ever dynoed any vehicle.

Noah, Joel (King03LS8) knows the guys at a dyno/performance shop in Buda. It was pretty cool since I've never seen a car dynoed in person.

I wish it was a tuning dyno but it was for my information. I wanted to see if the three items available for the '03+ LSs was worth the money. My LS does sound really great though... Now with ILLS's turbo, I hope to see much more power once he's finished with his.
