I was just wondering it this could be done. I can't stand my small console on my 02. I know that they got much bigger and better in 03. Is it possible to put an 03 and up console in an 02. I know that the emergency brake is different, but can't that be hooked up.

really, i'll have to look at what that looks like. They are the same bodies so i can see how they may work.

Nope the Thunderbird console will not work. It does look the same as the 00-02 LS console but the rear part where the air vents go for the back seat is different.

Really, i went on ebay motors and looked at the tbirds and they look the same from what i can see, but they don't have a pic of the back of the console.

I just like the 03 and up console it is so much bigger than my 02.

Ok, the T-bird's console is different in two places. First, the armrest compartment is deeper and that's why it won't fit the LS because of the air vent tubes that go for the rear seats. Also, the rear part where the air vents go is a little angled where in LS it's vertical.

Does anyone know if an 03+ console would fit if I just don't worry about the emergency brake all together? I have never used the emergency brake till this day and I could just leave the cable laying inside the 03+ console (it would not be usable). The e-brake would become a "dummy."

I really want that extra storage the 03+ provides!:)

i wouldnt put my safety in jeopardy just for a larger storage area

I think it will fit, but you are also going to need the ashtray part. But imagine you parked on a hill.. I use my e-brake rarely too but sometimes I need it.

Also consider that there will be color difference as the colors in 00-02 cars and 03 up are not exactly the same. (this comes from a guy that has a different color Jaguar steering wheel in his LS).

I wonder what it would take to convert to an electronic E brake. I'm sure a lot...but might be worth looking into.

Put a brick in the trunk and walaaa you got an emergency brake. j/k. :)

In some places (like Memphis) it is illegal to be riding around without an e-brake. I use the e-brake a lot. It puts less strain on the tranny when you park or changes gears from your stopped position because the full weight of the car is not resting on your gearbox.

Electronic parking brake? I KNEW I should have gotten the '04 model. Anyone have pictures of what it looks like?

I agree with you about the e-brake; I always shift into neutral and set the parking brake before shifting into park so the car is resting on the brakes instead of the parking pawl.

As for a picture, it's really not as exciting as it sounds; that's what the one in my old '04 looked like. That's it, next to the forward cupholder. Pull up to engage, step on the footbrake and push down (or shift from park to/through reverse) to disengage. If you pull it up when you're going over 5mph (I think), it beeps at you loudly to make sure you want to turn it on; hold it up to confirm.

opening an old thread I know, I thought I would add something though. I was orginally going to do this but just have the time anymore. You could put the '03 console in and they do fit. An e-brake replacement could be a set of "linelocks" you could even set them up to work with the stock switch probably. The way the switch is described it almost sounds like that is what the factory is using. I could be wrong though but that is how linelocks are set, push button when the peddle is depressed to hold the pressure on the brakes. A word of caution, if using the linelocks, upgrade to stainless steel brake lines also. there is a lot of pressure there.

No, that's not how the electronic parking brake works. Line locks merely hold the pressure from the applied brake; the e-brake actually applies pressure. If your foot is on the brake when you pull the e-brake, you'll feel the pedal go down a bit farther; if you pull the e-brake with your foot off of the pedal, it will activate the brakes.

Also, if you activate line locks on the rear brakes without the brake pedal pressed, you will lock out the rear brakes until the locks are released...

Yes this is why I said "almost sounds like" I know the electronic parking brake has a motor that applies the pressure, in a line lock it is your foot. In the end though, they do the same thing, hold pressure on a brake.

But a line lock holds hydraulic pressure in the calipers. That wouldn't be wise as an emergency brake. All that pressure on the piston seals for an extended time couldn't be good. Not only that, I would guess it wouldn't take long to run your battery down.

okay, so how does the actual electronic parking brake work in the LS. I was under the impression that it is a hydrualic parking brake.

An electric motor pulls the brake cable just like you would if it had the manual lever.

and remember that the solenoids are only meant to be 'on' for 60secs at a time - otherwise they will overheat and melt....
