03 Heated Passenger Seat Problem

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone else has this problem, or knows the solution. I'm sure it's a warranty issue but I just don't have time for that. Anyway my problem is that the passenger heated seat will work for about 30 seconds after being activated, then turns off. When you try to re-activate the heater, the lights flash on then off, and will not stay on until the car is shut off, and restarted. It's really getting to be a hassle when my girlfriend makes me pull over and shut the car off because her seat heater isn't working.

It sounds like the ducting that heats the seat is blocked up with something. The flashing means it is protecting itself from burning up. You will have to take the seat apart to get to this ductwork.

This is a known issue in the 2003-2004 LS. The ductwork in the seat becomes crushed, and the hot air cannot move through the system. This results in an overtemp circuit being activated, which is why your seat stops working after a while.

You better find time for this repair because if you don't do it under warranty, you'll be shelling out a lot of dough. The fix is described in TSB 04-16-18. Basically the entire seat has to come out, leater covering must be removed, ductwork fixed and then the whole seat has to be reassembled and reinstalled.

Todd; did they improve the design for 2005-2006 models? If so,do you know what exactly was changed?

Since the TSB applies only to 2003 and 2004 models, its reasonable to assume that the issue was fixed for 2005-06. According to the TSB, the fix involves redirecting and shortening some of the existing ductwork. I assume that these modifications were made in the 05-06 cars. I don't recall hearing about a problem of this kind in the 05-06 models.
