so i pulled a trouble code and i have either a bad cats or bad 02 sensors. of course i want to switch out the old o2s with new ones before i go ahead and drop money for new cats.the car is a 04 and only has 78k miles.(i doubt the cats went out that fast) i was wondering if anyone has changed all the o2s on their LS and if any special tools needed besides the o2 socket. or if its better to buy the o2s and have a shop change them for me. any comments/info would be helpful.

No special tools needed. Some penetrating oil and a wrench. Dont forget to put some anti-sieze on the new threads.

Check yo' COPS?

No special tools as mentioned. I've done it and I've had a shop do it. Any place should be able to do that in less than a half hour if everything goes as planned. Replace with OEM o2 sensors so you don't have to do it again.

DIY simple and easy. replace all four. A wrench will do it, I believe it was a 22mm. You can get O2's on ebay for about $15. Expensive ones do nothing for you.
