01 vs 02 Tranny

I am assuming the two tranny's in the 2001 and 2002 Ls V8's are the same. I need to do a swap and found two 02's for good prices and one local, but I own a 2001. Is the 5R55S the atomatic with select shift in the 2001? Or is it the 5R55N?

The 5R55S is the gen II transmission. The 5R55N is the gen I. Select shift (or not) is a feature outside of the transmission. (If your car has select shift now, then it will still have it even if the replacement transmission came from a car that didn't have it. It's a function of your PCM and your gear selector.)

All in all I'm assuming that the Gen II tranny from a V8 won't work in a gen I V8 LS?
