What's a 2001 Lincoln LS V8 with a bad tranny worth? Nice car with no rust or dents, but the tranny appears to have went south last week. Slowed down to for a car turning and when I got on it, it hit the rev limiter. Wouldn't pull itself at all. Use the select a shift, dropped to 3 and it was fine. Got home, put it drive, nothing had reverse though. It won't take off in drive, you have to rachet it back to 2nd.

It won't go into 1st either, should it?

Drove it around the block just to see which gears it had, got home, now no reverse.

You want to sell the car? transmisson rebuild should be around 1000

Does it react differently when you use the Selc-Shift compared to D5?

Yes, from my 1st post.

now it doesn't have reverse

I'll bring it home from the shop Mon. They want $3500 to install new a jasper trans., or $1500 to install one from a junkyard with 120k on it, not happening

On my 2002, the SST will only go to 2nd, but if you push the pedal to the floor from a start it will drop to 1st. So, if you are at a light, you can push on the brake and hold it while pressing the gas down and then quickly release the brake pedal and you are off to the races in first. (wouldn't make it a habit, but it comes in handy at times.) I don't know how your broken tranny would react to this, so proceed with caution.

They list 2 different # trans for 2001 V8 but on car-parts they are right at 500 dollars for both models.

can't hurt it anymore...

My selc-shift let me put it in 1st.. I wonder if the shifter is out of adjustment.. That's not the total problem here though..

my mom's won't.

yep. everything i have ever seen supports this exact statement. including my first hand experience in a 2000.
if you depress the throttle more than a certain amount, it will drop from 2 to 1.

Gen I doesn't normally let you start in first.

yep. downshifts, very quickly i might add, i cant even tell it happened, when you stomp it off the line.

had it rebuilt, 3yr 50K warranty.
the rear sprag and overdrive was busted.
