Hello and good morning everyone. I am a proud owner of a 2001 Lincoln Continental. I have had my car for 5 years now and just recently (2 months ago) I noticed that whenever I fill up my car I get only 280 miles until empty but before I use to get 450 miles until empty. I have always used 93 octane gas as stated in the owner's manual. What could be causing this? I had my fuel system cleaned at my local Ford Dealer :( this past December (12/16/2005) to be exact. The nearest Lincoln dealer to me is in Maryland. I live in Alexandria, VA. So back to my question do any of you guys have any idea what could be the problem? I have scheduled an appointment tomorrow with my local Ford dealer to have them look at this for me. I would like to go in knowing something so that I won't be taken for a ride literally. Your advise would be greatly appreciated.....

Your oxygen sensors probably need to be replaced. I assume you have well over 75,000 miles by now?

It's also probably time to the change plugs and fuel filter.

Yeah I have 80,000 miles on my Conti. So you saying that I need a tune-up in addition to getting my Oxygen sensor replaced?

Hy!

Maybe there is a problem that You changed metric units to english?
Because 280 miles equals to 451 km!

I would think you'd notice this, because besides the odometer changing, the Climate Control would be different as well.

Is'nt there a gadge in the Fuel tank the transmitts the fuel level to the speedometer?? Mayby it went defective and it's not getting acurrate readings. A 97 Conti that I had once used to mark half a tank or even full when it's acatually was empty.

My previos 98 Conti that had 148K used to mark 428+ miles to empty and the car only got to run 340 non stop on highway & in normal Highway & local use I got about 305 miles with a full tank even when it marked 428+ to empty but thats usually what a 98 can run.

A 1990 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL My dad had when I was a kid had a similar problem. It would mark one level of gas when it actuall had nothing. In this case, a cylinder shapped rod vertically standing which was the fuel gadge in the tank was the culprit. Changed it himself since the tank stood behind the back seet.

I assume that a Conti should have some system like that in the Tank. Mabey it's frozen and doesn't rise to any higher level.
My best guess.
