looking at a replacement bumper for my 00 ls sport (no chrome) I notice when facing the front, there is an open square hole on the passenger side next to the fog light.

What is that for?

that's the grille insert, I don't know why it's removable. Glad I found mine recently.

Looks like a super hard find :P

Guess I'll have to live with the hole...

Saw it was called a bumper grill hatch and a tow hook access panel (hatch)

2000 ls sport v8 thingy so now I can say with authority, I have a 2000 LS V8 Sport!

As long as I have the couple of bucks that will get me a coffee at dunkin donuts :)

Thanx for your replies

If it is what I think it is then it is removable to insert the block heater plug. The northen market cars had a block heater standard. The canadian ones did for sure. It was a regular cord, like one from a computer, one end plugged in there and the other end went to the outlet. The cord came in the spare tire area.

That's interesting. Never seen one of those, although I remember there were devices that would fit the oil dipstick tube that was supposed to keep oil warm, but never had any dealing with them. Never got that cold even in New England.

Nope. That was the access cover for the tow hook; required for European sales. When Lincoln decided not to sell the LS in Europe the access panel was no longer needed. There is a threaded nut behind the panel to attach the tow hook.

My '02 Sport has the pop-out. Just pull on it. There's a retainer/tether that supposedly keeps it from getting lost when it's loose.
