i have a 00 lincoln LS and when i do a cold start on it. The temp gauge gets very hot within 5 mins of driving it. my gauge says check engine temperature but i know its not overheating cuz i havent driven it in awhile. any ideas of what it could be? also can you recommend good HID lights and maybe a decent glowinthedark gauges?

Your thermostat is sticking closed and slow to open, replace thermostat.

very easy replacement. I removed the whole air intake tube to access the t-stat. make sure you print off the tech article about draining your coolant.

I have the same problem, but...

I have the same problem, replaced thermostat (easy) didnt fix it. my guage
reacts to fast so im thinking its the sending unit. anyone no where it is on a v-8?

That would be part of the process when replacing the thermostat... so if that wasn't done properly, then yes do that again, but correctly. If that was done correctly, then another cause could be the Cylinder Head Temperature sensor. Don't know where it's located, but i know you should have to remove the intake manifold. A shop would be in the range of 3-400 to replace.

Degass bottle

You may have cracked the reservoir bottle. Remove and check for cracking. Ths is a common problem.
